Jemison likes to pancake at the very edge of the platform.  When I first saw this, I thought she had disappeared over the edge.

Paul

Paul, We are all having heart palpitations here too.  Jeanne panicked yesterday evening while watching the cam.  She thought for sure one went over.  She contacted a couple people including me.  I was already out and about when she called.  We both met downtown, and by the time we got there, Carol P and Shaky confirmed by phone that both youngsters were in the box.  So, we watched some nice flying by the parents before the sun set.  This new location has us on edge, because we were so used to the playpen.  I'm sure these two will do just fine.  They seem to be progressing according to schedule.

I suggested in addition to fledge watch info we get CPR training.  I typically look at all the camera views but last night, I saw one little one, some prey and a second bird.  Then the second bird disappeared.  That is when I sounded the alarm.  Shaky and Carol told me both babies were in the nest so after meeting up with Joyce, I looked at the archive.  The bird that "disappeared" was Beauty flying away.  I hadn't had a clear view of her so I assumed it was one of the juvies going over the ledge.

At least I got my box and blanket ready in case we need it for a rescue!  Sheesh!

As far as the boys throwing rocks at her, I don't know if I want to cry or scream! They need a good  whooping.

Can't - Child Protective Services will step in and punish the parents.  Madness!

Those brats need to meet up with BB from Buffalo

Can you imagine what we would be like if all 4 had hatched?

At least there was a happy ending to the story for the little one!  Yes, Jeanne, our hearts will definitely be fluttering this year!

Today, I was so nervous watching Callidora that I held my cell phone with me at work in case I had to scream for Brian H or Susan!  She fell over this morning almost when she was walking in the nestbox so seeing her preen on the edge of the ledge was almost too much for me.   Shocked

Callidora is on the ledge near the camera, preening and looking out.  She's been a bit awkward today. Hope Brian is near TS in case

Very Nice, Ei!  Why is it the gals go to the end where there is a drop rather than a ramp?  Sheesh

These first fledges are not for the faint hearted-- both animals and those watching them

It's that edge near the camera that causes the heart palpitations.  The sides are ok.  There are places for them that are safe.  And the ramp to get back up.

I thought this was interesting-- this is the apt house with Mom, Jack and sometimes, Milton:

Feedings continue, Jack is here a lot, and Mom is around the ledge most of the time, though she does regularly go to the old nest ledge for a break.

Mom and Jack seem to be getting a little more tense. Mom has been observed "stooping" (diving at high speed) particular dogs on the property. In 2008 Mom disliked one large black dog for some reason, and did the same thing. No contact was ever made. Mom and Jack have also become more agitated by cats grazing directly below the nest. I don't want to alarm anyone but am mentioning this so folks are aware. If you're concerned for your safety, avoid the area, though I personally see Mom stooping as a minor but admittedly intimidating issue.
