Thank you for pursuing this, Patti.  Surely, though, the first graders who fledged from high school are not the same ones who named Freedom in 2002!   Smiley  It would really be nice to track some of them down.  They would have a vested interest in becoming the next generation of fledge watchers.  Oh, well.

P.S.  Sorry I won't be seeing you in Rochester this year.

Right, unless they accelerated a couple of years.  In 2005 they had just graduated from 5th grade when Nancy commented on my blog post about seeing Freedom at Port Colborne...

I googled the school and can't find it.  The only thing I found was a 2010 article that says a school was named for the principal, Charles Avery, and it is now an administrative building.

Jim, in your blog, she says Freedom sounds like Mariah on the birdcam.  Do we have Mariah's vocalization?

Wish we knew where Freedom is.  I loved that blog with his kakking.

Looking over the banding chart, I notice that Freedom was named by a first grade class.  Those children would be middle-schoolers now.  Is there any way to let their teacher (a Nancy Reid) or the school know that Freedom's son Archer is now back in Rochester?  Perhaps send the school a copy of Jim's terrific photo from today?

That would be cool!  Nancy was actually an active participant in the early days of the Kodak Forum, but I don't remember hearing anything from/about her for a number of years.

I just looked up the school and I think it isn't there anymore. (an article I read said the school was named for a former principal and is now an administrative building) I'll keep looking!

Great catch!  Thanks, Donna!  Good to see she is back on guard!
1885  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Noise Pollution on: 10-Jun-10, 09:52:51 PM
Beauty was hatched at a university and Archer at a mill.  There were probably an assortment of sounds they were exposed to.  All of these things become part of their environment and probably quite "normal" to them.  They are a bit away from a beautiful gorge and the river so they have the best of both worlds here-- not to mention a good food supply!

Thank you to Aafke, Donna Ei, and Jeanne for doing the play-by-play on today's banding. Great job, ladies! I expect you'll be contacted by one of the major networks to cover the 2012 Olympics.

Thanks, Shaky!  I have to say that you , Kenn and Jim were amazing on the technical skills that brought this all together.  It was amazing to watch you all in action!  I think the 2012 Olympics need to contact all of you! notworthy

I agree jeanne, they did a wonderful job putting this all together. We can share the duties at the Olympics...I'm not greedy!  Wink Cheesy

I think Jemison was on the borderline so they went with female.  Callidora is absolutely enormous!

Awesome, Kris, thank you!!!!!  I think it is such a great name for a Rochester born falcon!  May this little one carry the strength of this name.  I thought it was particularly significant that Mary Jemison had an association with the Seneca tribe and we have our own Seneca (hatched 2008).

Oh, Jeanne, you had to post such a sad story.  It annoys me that the humans created the situation, so why did they HAVE to shoot the mom?!

Suzanne

OMG, Suzanne, that poor baby!  I don't know why they couldn't have just handled this a different way.  It wasn't his fault and his poor mama was just going where the food was.  I get really upset when it is a human reason for the problem too.
