Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Pictures from the Rfalconcam cameras

Is it me or is the quality of the new cameras such that I swear the babies are starting to get feathers! What's it 10 days since birth? Little dark spots, I see!
They are growing fast but I don't think it's true feathers quite yet. They should be growing in their second down now...gray compared to their natal down. But we've never been able to see the buds of it before! And speaking of the excellent cam...Beauty preening! Donna - your eyes are a thousand times better than mine - what say you? Is her head framed by poop?

Rochester Falcons / Falcon Watches / Re: Watcher Watching

You watchers have given this watcher watcher little to watch, but A&B have been more than making up for it.
Walking back from court, I heard our pair and looked up; A&B were exchanging prey on the wing. Beauty took a snack from Archer and headed back to the nest.
About 15 minutes ago a few buzzards were headed south above the river when A&B stepped in. The maneuverability of a falcon is much greater than that of a vulture. I felt really bad for the vultures. They just wanted out of there, but A&B were relentless in their attacks, bashing into them and making them dodge, lose altitude and turn so they didn't know where they were going, much less which direction they should avoid!
Very cool, Mark! Wait till banding when they are dive bombing the banders:)

I was fortunate enough to be able to go the banding of Rhea Mae and Tiago's eyases today. It was really great meeting the "Rochester Gang" after 6 years of only knowing their personalities through the kfalconcam and the rfalconcam forums! I also talked to Linda Woods (of the Canadian Peregrine Foundation) and told her that I would like to try to be an official watcher this year. I took photos of the banding and will post a few eventually. I had a great time -- it took my mind off my sadness for a little while, but I was really tired and had to leave before the end. Anyway, it was a truly significant experience in my life and I will remember it for a long, long time! Especially the kakking and the flailing of those wonderful big yellow feet!!! Anne C. (Toronto, ON Canada) I'm so glad you were there!!!
