That would be great news. Tonga is one of our girls! from Mississauga Executive Centre, where we are doing a banding today. We will definetly mention this possibility during the banding ceremony. Thanks for this!

Australian authorities have been fighting over the penguin's future after the Department for Environment and Natural Resources demanded she be transferred to a zoo and kept as a permanent exhibit animal.

"They can go get stuffed," said Machado.   clap

"We are not going to give her up to the zoo. Look at her home range - after swimming 3000km, they are going to put her in a pool for the rest of her life. That is torturous."

The most difficult one for us to comprehend may be the earth’s magnetic field. Birds see it, but what it looks like to them, nobody knows.

Wow, this has not been updated since 2010? I'm slacking!

After a shaky start, Dayton may yet have a successful peregrine falcon nest this spring.

The birds, presumed to be Dayton and Daniel, although not confirmed, began nesting in the window well on the northeast side of the Liberty Bank building in March. Open to the elements, it’s the same spot where last year’s nest failed. They had at least three eggs they were incubating this year.

One day in April they abandoned those eggs and moved to a covered box on top of the building, one of several placed on rooftops by the Division of Wildlife around the city.

“We are not sure when they stopped, because we didn’t have a good camera view,” said Diana Malas, peregrine project leader for the Division of Wildlife’s District 5 office in Xenia. “Apparently the nest failed, since the birds moved up into the box on April 14 and laid three eggs, which they are still incubating.”

If all goes well, the eggs are due to hatch May 21. The plan would be to band the chicks at three weeks of age.

The nest box can be viewed at boonshoftmuseum.org. Then click on Falconcam. You can also check out the eagles living in the Dayton well field at the Boonshoft site, clicking on Eaglecam.

Feel bad for Angel or any falcon that "gets the boot" so to speak. Hope this new gal stays in her territory, (I'm sure Jack will keep her in line like DC is keeping Pigott in her territory). Nice that they have 4 chicks and cool, hope it is one of MK's kids. Thanks Carly and BF.

Well color me stunned this morning.  Received photos of our new offspring this morning with mom and dad...and guess what ..mom is banded black/green.  When did we lose Angel?  I have no idea.

I never saw any battles and never saw any long absences or 'strange' behaviour.  Jack is easy to ID and he's been reconfirmed as our male.  With 10 x50's you can never see the bands.

The only thing I've noticed is Jack seemed to be spending alot more time here...now we know why.  And this female has produced 4 eyases!  I'm just looking at the photos right now...  surprise surprise surprise

Shocked WHAT?? Oh no, not Angel too!! Wow, when will it end?
