SW and Boomer's son Spark from 2011 has just been identified as the new male at Columbus seen with Durand.  He sports Red/Black 32/B on his bands!  2thumbsup

This makes him Scout and Orville's grandson as Boomer was their son born on the very same ledge.

It just gets more confusing! They're all related some how!!  stupid

10209  Member Activities / Vacations and Holidays / @->-->- Happy Mother's Day --<--<-@ on: 13-May-12, 08:02:53 AM
A mother is someone to shelter and guide us,
To love us, whatever we do,
With a warm understanding and infinite patience
And wonderful gentleness, too.
How often a mother means swift reassurance
In soothing our small, childish fears,
How tenderly mothers watch over their children
And treasure them all through the years!
The heart of a mother is full of forgiveness
For any mistake, big or small,
And generous always in helping her family,
Whose needs she has placed above all.
A mother can utter a word of compassion
And make all our cares fall away,
She can brighten a home with the sound of her laughter
And make life delightful and gay.
A mother possesses incredible wisdom
And wonderful insight and skill -
In each human heart is that one special corner
Which only a mother can fill!

10211  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / QUIRKY ASIA: Eagle has phantom pregnancy on: 12-May-12, 05:03:04 PM
Seoul (The Korea Herald/ANN) - An eagle, which never made it home due to a broken wing, is thought to be having a phantom pregnancy as it incubates pebbles instead of eggs, domestic reports said.

The eagle migrated to Korea 10 years ago from Mongolia to spend winter here but hasn't been able to leave since its injury.

The eagle has sat on the pebbles, smaller than the average size of eggs, since last month at the shelter of a bird protection organization.

The eagle started to make a nest in March after apparently mating. Completing a nest, about 1.5 meter in diameter with twigs, it collected small pebbles scattered around the place where it has been fed, according to an official at the Korea Association for Bird Protection.

The official said the eagle is suspected of experiencing a false pregnancy in breeding season as it is impossible to go back to home and breed in Mongolia.

About a thousand eagles from Mongolia come to Paju, Gyeonggi Province, every October to spend winter and fly back to Mongolia around March and April to breed.

Thanks Kris
10212  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / Fat Cat Dies of Complications of Morbid Obesity Santa Fe on: 12-May-12, 02:51:02 PM
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A cat that got national attention for tipping the scales at 39 pounds has died. The Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society said Monday that the orange and white tabby named Meow died over the weekend, likely from complications from his morbid obesity.

Meow, who was between 2 and 5 years old, was taken to the shelter last month after his 87-year-old owner could no longer take care of him. The shelter put Meow on a diet and posted all his weigh-ins on a Facebook page that got national attention.

Meow had lost 2 pounds and was doing well when he began having breathing problems Wednesday. Despite constant attention, and medical testing and treatment, Meow died on Saturday.

Shelter Director Mary Martin says the entire staff is devastated.

Now that's a big cat!   Sad

3 again this year.

HIGHLAND – For the 16th year in a row, the Mid-Hudson Bridge between Poughkeepsie and Highland is home to newly hatched Peregrine Falcons.

“It’s an annual tradition,” New York State Bridge Authority Executive Director Joseph Ruggiero said Friday.

These are the 42nd, 43rd and 44th Peregrine Falcons fledged from the nesting box on the bridge. There are nesting boxes on all five of the Authority’s Hudson River vehicle crossings, installed in the late 1980s as part of the effort to re-establish the Peregrine in the Hudson Valley. Those birds are listed as an endangered species.

The Authority partners with the state Department of Environmental Conservation to provide the public with live snapshots of the Peregrine nest. The webcam is at http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/53052.html. The live-shot is updated every 10 minutes.
