10441  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: two questions ???? on: 02-Mar-12, 10:28:50 AM
Do we know for certain if Mr. is banded or un-banded?

Since I gather this is the new dominant pair in this territory, when Beauty is released back into the wild it would probably be best if she didn't return here?  Since Mariah returned after her release at Montezuma (as I recall) it would seem to me Beauty would have to be released further away to discourage her return.  Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

The new male is unbanded and when Beauty gets released, it's up to her where she goes. I don't think distance matters. Archer due back soon too. Could get pretty wild or maybe not. Just have to wait and see how it all unfolds.  hyper Nervous!

I just cup them in my hands and blow gently. Not with my mouth right on their beaks but with the hand enclosing the bird and the breath. Then (if you need to know this...), they go into the bra in the cleavage for warmth... then more puffing til they are better. Really!

Awesome Bobbie!! Leave it to Cleaver!!!

You know, I have done this on quite a few occasions with small birds... they probably hit a window, and when you pick them up, you wonder what you could possibly do. So I did mouth-to-beak once - and it worked! Been doing it ever since (tho not so frequently, I am happy to report!).

WOW Bobbie!! Good for you!!  clap You just blow in their beaks? In case.

Seabirds nest on land and can go many miles out to sea for their food. Some scientists believe that by studying these birds they can learn what is happening both on land and at sea due to climate change and human influence.

The beauty of the place was overwhelming, but unfortunately what really caught my attention was the trash. Beaches that should be pristine were littered with plastic of all kinds, as far as you could see. It was shocking and disturbing to see that Albatrosses were feeding the smaller pieces of plastic to their chicks.  Sad

These wild and beautiful birds of prey are fed at Gigrin Farm every day of the year, and this has been done for over 18 years. On Christmas day, with snow on the ground I placed a video camera close to where the meat was spread..
