Algo and Polly, the offspring of Spirit and Rogers, born in 2009, now have a brand new box at the Turcot interchange. This is the company Falcon Environmental Services (FES) in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife and Transportation (MTQ) who carried out the construction and installation of the box. The latter is on the stack J-4, a battery "north" of the pile where their first nest was located last year. After a failed nesting attempt in 2011, it is hoped that 2012 will bring them healthy falcons. Thank you to Marilou G. Skellig (SEF) for the photo of the box.

Way to go Polly!! What a nice nest too! Shouldn't there be a guard in front?  Shocked

Here is a link that lists Rochester Buildings.  In addition to Dumpsterkitty's Rochester Landmarks Map (see other topic), this can be used as a reference for the various buildings our Rochester Falcons land on.

I am thinking of getting the brain of a hummingbird... might mean I do not to keep praying to St Anthony and paying him if he finds things... which (quite spookily!) he always does...

Funny, I read that with need in it! How the mind works!  wave

So your mind is already the size of a hummingbird's, huh, D-G?!

We won't go there!  devil

London - They may be tiny, but hummingbirds have a huge memory, researchers have found.

Their hippocampus – the area of the brain responsible for learning and memory – is up to five times bigger than that in songbirds, seabirds and woodpeckers.

This might explain why hummingbirds are such skilled foragers.

The birds can remember where every flower in their territory is and how long it takes to refill with nectar after they have fed.

A team led by Dr Andrew Iwaniuk, of the University of Lethbridge in Canada, dissected hummingbird brains and found their hippocampus showed an “exceptional” memory.

Their study is published in the Royal Society journal Biology Letters. - Daily Mail
