CLEARFIELD, Utah — A die-off of European starlings in a northern Utah community has left local officials wondering who poisoned them.

Federal and state wildlife agencies told The Associated Press they did not cause about 400 starlings to fall dead at a Clearfield park earlier this week.

Linnell says anyone can kill starlings with an approved poison because they're an unprotected species.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says it set out poisoned bait five days earlier for starlings making a mess at a feedlot 30 miles away.

But Utah's USDA wildlife program chief Mike Linnell says that poisoning campaign can't be connected to the more recent death of starlings in Clearfield. He believes an unknown landowner is behind the most recent poisoning.

Linnell says anyone can kill starlings with an approved poison because they're an unprotected species.

My UPS driver is a girl I used to work with. She makes sure when I'm not home, where she put my package. She leaves a note on the inside door near the bottom where it is. Lisa was at my baby shower 28 years ago! When my (Cute) UPS driver retired, imagine my surprise when Lisa rang my bell for the first time 5 years ago!  handshake I still miss the cutie!  devil

Seldom does my husband Rod surf for such things, but it was his find. Imagine that lot coming down the path in your direction. Utterly benign, with the Silverback watching out for everyone.

He was very calm, the Silverback. Love the babies preening the guy and tasting him, I'm watching it again!
