In the area I live in,about 45min north of Toronto, its abit early yet for Snowy Owls. We do live only 10min from a great spot to see them all winter though,so I look forward to many good sightings.

Oh yeah...pics soon!!  clap

All, there was a stabbing this morning on Chestnut St-- attempted robbery.  The victim's throat was slashed.  The police are looking for the person who did this to her.  Just a heads up

How I spent my Saturday! http://www.peregrine-foundation.ca/w/2011/11/sightings/mec-the-last-four-days-this-is-a-must-read/
Sunday Tracy and I returned to MEC to be sure Infinity was fine and that the intruder was nowhere in sight. She is fine and no sign of the interloper.
We also went to another site and found both male and female there. The male was chasing pigeons. What will next week bring?? Stay tuned, its never boring around here!

BigFrank, so glad Infinity is ok!  Wow, what a time you all have!

That story is unbelievable! Thanks so much BF & Tracy, good job!

One of the best places to watch for them, however, is right along the lakeshore, especially the piers at Charlotte, the jetties at Irondequoit Bay outlet, and the open expanse of Braddock Bay, especially when it gets ice. Snowy Owls are active by day as well as by night; they will prey not only on rodents but coots, gulls and other waterfowl that congregate at these locations. SWEET!!

Friends of Blackwater NWR

Glenn Lawrence just posted this to our wall and I had to republish it here so everyone would be sure to see it. He took it yesterday, and it makes me really homesick for the return of the Osprey Cam feed. This could very well be our Eagle Cam couple perching on the Osprey Cam nest.

!!! Sick Collared Coyote Near Leslie Spit
November 12, 2011 - International, National and Local News
Frank Butson Reports:

While Tracy and I were out birding last weekend,we saw a Coyote that was radio collared. (the type followed with the antena contraption listening for blips) We were confused by it at first, especially given the poor condition of the animal. It had virtually no hair left and was so skinny you could see every one of its ribs. Mange is going through Toronto right now, which while a crying shame,is natures own population control.  We noted the time…230pm,along Unwin Street. Not a Peregrine report, but we got permission to post. Keep a close rein on your dogs so they dont come in contact with ill Coyotes or Foxes.

The tracking device was put there by the Ministry of Natural Resources to track Coyote movement. I was surprised to learn that Coyotes ranged so far. One was tracked in Toronto one day and 3 or 4 days later it was in Peterborough! Its easy to see why mange becomes widespread during an outbreak.

Poor thing! Since it's being monitored, can't they capture and cure...or...so it doesn't spread this?
