Bear Cubs Expected at Wildlife Center on Tuesday, October 18

Two bear cubs removed from a tree after a sow [presumably their mother] was struck and killed by a car in Suffolk, VA on Monday morning [October 17] are expected to be brought to the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro on Tuesday, October 18.

The cubs are expected to arrive on Tuesday morning.  They will be examined by the Center’s team of wildlife veterinarians.

Additional information on the cubs and their condition will be posted as it becomes available.

Pretty sure Kendal flew by my window yesterday afternoon, but I don't see any sign of Q or K this a.m. Usually at least one of them is perched on or near the building. Hope they didn't get turned off by the new digs.

Oh I hope not also Kat. Thanks for the info. If you see them today, please let us know! I worry, as always.

How about a falcon-watching ambulance? Flashers, siren, webcam.

Imagine that Shaky! LOL

Annie, MAK had the 1st of 2 knee replacements. Just talked to her and she is going to PT in about an hour. Sounds much better than yesterday. She's up and sitting in her chair. Drain coming out in a few. She is trying to get into PT for at least one week but her insurance will give her a hard time the nurse said. We'll see what happens. If no Physical Therapy, she will be home by Thurs or Friday. She is watching the birds migrate outside her window.

So wonderful that Mak's surgery is over and that she feels good--it would be
really cool if a peregrine came by her window--it would make her day for sure!
All the best to her! Christiane

12398  Member Activities / Events / Re: "Lurker Come Out Week" This means you! on: 17-Oct-11, 11:03:29 PM
Hmm, this went over well! Got like 4 people out of 502 to come out! OY, I tried!

And a very good try it was!  As someone suggested, many nesting season lurkers have probably already gone into hibernation.  Maybe a coming out week in April will be more productive.

Absolutely Paul, I was just hoping for more people joining our Fall/Winter conversations. We had fun with Mr T last year. Hope he entertains us again this year, well only if Archer leaves. He does need a vaca!! Smiley

So glad that you visited her tonight.  How long will she be in hospital?   It's a good one for joint replacement!
Good name too!

Not sure the hospital stay Margaret but she may have to go to PT for a week, which she wants.

(You may just see her riding that bike DT to do her watches)  clap

MAK called me tonight, she sounded very groggy, guess she's getting her pain meds regularly. She can't wait to get up, she's been in that one position all day. Tomorrow she goes to Physical Therapy. Yes, Carol, she sure likes her basket full of goodies. She keeps sliding down on the bed and they have to move her up as she can't do it alone. I know the feeling! All in all, she is in good spirits and we had a few laughs. Tomorrow should be better for her. She says HI to all and she misses the Falcons and everyone. If they have WiFi there, (which Hosp usually do), Sue will bring her PC over and she can do her own updates!!  devil That's it until tomorrow!

YORK, Maine — Coastal Ridge Elementary School students became children's book illustrators this past Friday, when their names were called as the winners of a contest to have their drawings highlight a new book about Freyja, the Center for Wildlife's resident peregrine falcon.

12404  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / High falcon count noted on: 17-Oct-11, 09:43:18 PM
If the population of duck hawks continues growing at its current rate, small mammals in St. Johns County might soon have more to worry about.

A team of trackers who monitor the local migration flights of the peregrine falcon, or duck hawk (for its taste for water fowl), reported that over a 16-day period this year, 939 peregrines flew past a platform at Guana River State Park.
