I've received a few entries so far. Keep 'em coming.

I also want to offer my assistance for those who are struggling to get the picture to the needed specifications.  If you'd like me to do an edit of your picture, I would need the original, unedited picture file sent to me by Oct 10th. Just send it to me via email (ltcapuano@gmail.com). I'll make an attempt to crop the image, get it to the appropriate size, and do minor adjustments (brightness, contrast. sharpness) if you'd like. I'll send the edited picture back to you so you can submit it. Reminder: only one picture submission/person.

Note: If there are other folks on the board who want to offer their assistance as well, please post that here!

Thanks,
Lou

Thanks so much Lou, any help is appreciated!

Annie - where are you re: stinky.  We were under assault last year, but they are just about non-existent this year.  I put the traps up 10 days ago ($120 for traps and bait) and we have caught 1 spider and 1 stinky.  I pulled the tomatoe plants up and left the greens one on them.  They should be covered with stinky - nothing!

Now, I have several armies in my yard and gardens - praying mantis, spiders, and birds.  Have they killed a lot of baby stinky?  Don't know and not complaining.

I saw 1 this year, last year, OMG, they were every where! Not complaining either!   Janet, Annie is from Indy, I believe!

Bald Eagle D-1 travels to Wisconsin, Minnesota
By Laura Goetzinger

Arguably the most famous animal to come from Decorah has made its way to Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Bald Eagle D-1 hatched at the Decorah Fish Hatchery earlier this year, under the watchful eyes of millions of Internet viewers.

She was fitted with a satellite transmitter on July 12 and remained a Decorah resident about another month.

Then, Aug. 14, she flew away.

Thanks to the transmitter researchers have been able to track many of her moves. Researchers download data from the satellite each morning from the previous day.

Her first day away from Decorah, D-1 was logged near the Minnesota/Iowa border and near Wykoff, Minn. Over the next week, she was logged near Pepin, Wisconsin near the Mississippi River and Luck in Central.

Since then, D-1 has largely been in the Yellow Lake vicinity.

A photograph was taken of her Wednesday, Sept. 28, about three miles from Yellow Lake, Wis.

The photographer, who has asked to remain anonymous, said she looked healthy, relaxed and interacted with other local eagles.

Researchers are certain D-1 was the eagle in the picture because her satellite transmitter was visible, and she was tracked down using telemetry, Anderson said.

"Most everyone was completely surprised by her northern travels," said Bob Anderson, director of the Raptor Research Project. "Some of us thought she may go to a nearby livestock farm, but for her to head to Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin was most interesting."

During her travels, D-1 made friends with other eagles, having been seen with both immature and adult eagles.

The biggest risks to her safety are probably having a reduced fear of humans and vehicles, Anderson said.

It will be at least three more years before she breeds, he said.

Like her early life, D-1's travels can be viewed online at www.raptorresource.org. The project is also on Facebook, search "Decorah Eagles."

Ive been down in Toronto for a few days,so I could attend the raptor watch (migrating bird of prey count) which I started in 2004. In my abscence this year  my normally righthand man Walter has abley taken over running things. Saturday we had a record day with over 1300 raptors WOW. Today we saw over 600. Its been a real thrill to see so many birds. Tomorrow promises to be another good day, then its back to Tracys. This coming weekend CPF goes to the Woodbridge Fair with some of their educational birds and we will be there too. Its always fun and rewarding to do the shows and pass on info and enjoy people enjoying our birds up close and personal.

Way to go BF, man, you see lots of Raptors!! THANKS!!  thumbsup

Congratulations to our tolerant parents, Swift and Beau – the first little head popped up in the tiny hours of this morning’s darkness. As has been pointed out it’s so small but it’s very new. There is now also a second little head under Swift as well; third still unconfirmed. True to form our recording software and streaming has decided to fall over in random ways this morning, but we’re on to it and will continue to make sure we can provide as much live coverage as possible. Bear with us! When we’ve edited some clips a little shorter they’ll be made available via this website ASAP.
But for now the good news is that new life has appeared up in the eyrie and we’ll be keeping close tabs from now on. Enjoy the new life!
Website hits have skyrocketed so we apologise if you’re having trouble getting on, or the camera pages play up. They active streams are being monitored all day and we’re developing more stable versions to be implemented very shortly.
