Nice pic of Kodak!
That was right after the falcon on the railing took off and flew directly toward the camera for 5-10 seconds before veering off to the right. If you were watching on streaming video, you would have seen me tracking the falcon as it came in closer and closer.

OK, so that was B that took off! Thanks

IDK, I thought it was Beauty, guess Archer.  stupid

I'm not sure.  When I saw the picture I thought it was Beauty, but if I'm reading the tweet right it seems it would be Archer.  I guess we'll have to wait for MAK to get home & look at it herself.
LOL, that's what I put on FB too!!

12805  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / In Finland, Eagle Owls first flights. And rescue. on: 16-Sep-11, 07:57:11 AM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9q00XqZEIs#ws  By the 20th of April the nestlings were roaming the roof and ready to fledge.  One of them attempted a short airborne hop but he miscalculated and it became his first city tour, complete with a rescue by the fire department from the top of the “Southern Fried Chicken” sign where you see him perched above.

The video is a compilation of his adventure from the roof to the rescue net.  I love how the fireman waves at him and points to the sky as if to say, “Look up there.  Don’t look at my net.”

The owlet was returned to his nest and later fledged successfully.

12809  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / Llandudno bird watcher fell 80 ft to death. Wales on: 16-Sep-11, 06:58:48 AM
A KEEN bird watcher and ex-mountain leader died after plunging 80ft off a cliff.

Vincent Pinnington, 82, died after slipping on the Great Orme in Llandudno.

He had set out to photograph a peregrine falcon when he had slipped in tall grass, an inquest heard. His body was recovered later by an RAF Sea King helicopter following a search by various parties in May 8.

His niece, Karin Owen of Colwyn Bay said: “People were very shocked at his death and we are obviously very sad. He loved the spring and summer.”

Former colleague Charles Crapper paid tribute to his friend of 30 years. He said: “He lived a full life to the very end, doing things he loved. He was a very confident person, perhaps over confident. But he was always careful. ”

Dr Mark Lord, pathologist at Ysbyty Gwynedd recorded his death as caused by multiple injuries due to the fall.

Mr Pinnington, originally from Lancaster, had travelled the world four times before the age of 24 and had lived and worked in Malaysia. He married Joan Pinnington in 1962 and had worked as a DHSS investigator. He was also a mountain leader and landscape photographer. His wife currently resides in a care home.

Acting coroner, John Gittins recorded a verdict of accidental death.

How sad, just shows the length a birder will go for that ultimate shot!   Sad
12810  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / Injured hawk, a Hopkins fixture, is put to sleep MD on: 16-Sep-11, 06:54:38 AM
September 13, 2011|By Scott Calvert, The Baltimore Sun

Kathy Woods tried everything she could think of to save the female red-tailed hawk that was injured last year by crashing into a library window at the Johns Hopkins University.

Even bird acupuncture.

But the hawk's nerve damage proved too serious to overcome, and she was put to sleep.

"The impact of the glass was just too much," Woods, who runs the Phoenix Wildlife Center in Baltimore County, said Tuesday.

 Sad
