It's interesting that they installed regular airline passenger seats in the back of the cargo plane.
I saw that in a Steven Seagal movie, so it must be ok. They call it precious cargo!

No Penguins but Jeff did post his pics from the flight on a C-17 from Christ Church NZ, to Antarctica. He's hoping for a better tour this year.

Can't leave comments on Imprints? They want a username and password. Since when?
I see your comment. I don't know what happened the first time, and I can't get it to repeat. That big long box came up...user name and password required. I tried a few times to post the comment then it hit me, I had to sign in all over again. Usually I just write a comment and and post, as I'm already signed in. No biggie, it worked. Thanks.

Member Activities / Vacations and Holidays / **Happy Labor Day*

Labor Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September (September 5 in 2011) that celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers. Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer. In high society, Labor Day is (or was) considered the last day of the year when it is fashionable for women to wear white. Put your whites away ladies! In U.S. sports, Labor Day marks the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons. NCAA teams usually play their first games the week before Labor Day, with the NFL traditionally playing their first game the Thursday following Labor Day. The Southern 500 NASCAR auto race was held that day from 1950 to 1983 in Darlington, South Carolina. At Indianapolis, the National Hot Rod Association hold their finals to the U.S. Nationals drag race. In the U.S. most school districts that started summer vacation in early to mid-June will resume school near this day (while schools that had summer begin near Memorial Day will have already been in session for about 3 weeks) Happy Labor Day all! Fall will be here soon, the birds will be ready for Migration, time to cover the pools, there will be more traffic on the roads and it's one step closer to my favorite Holiday... It also means while Archer's gone, Beauty must do all the repairs at the nest....(or Shaky)!

The transmitter has successfully sent several signals since the bird was released, and showed that he has moved slightly east then south since release. Of course there is no guarantee that he will continue to swim south (he swam north last time he was in the sea!). It may take a few days for him to get his bearings and start moving in a definite direction.
A snipet from the blog! Where ever he ends up, people will know him!

Two of our three adopted dogs were "released" like this on our dirt road. We usually refer to the practice as "dumping".
So sad for them. Oh do you consider this dumping! I wish they could have taken him further, the seas were rough. I'm not sure of this whole idea but I guess they had to do what they had to. Just hope he survives to tell his tale. Good for them, really, because now they live on Easy Street. Dumping was the first thing that came to mind when I saw him splash into the sea. I'm sure the releasers know more than I'll ever care to know about penguins, but 49 miles just seems a long way for him to navigate when he's already proven he doesn't know north from south. Maybe southern hemisphere miles are shorter? Totally understand, I just wish they didn't give him that push. Mixed feelings on this whole thing from the beginning. Instead of just letting him lay there for days eating sand and sticks, knowing a rescue was inevitable, they should have rescued him at first sighting. I certainly do know what "dumping" is NFF, we have lots of it here also. Glad you took 2 of the dogs in!
