Kat, she pretty much changed over night. We were all confused when we woke up and there was this beautiful DARK falcon on the nest. Eileen, thought Harlie was missing when actually she was looking at Harlie. Amazing huh? Thank you so much for volunteering for "Fledge Watch", it's so important to have some eyes watching as she takes that first plunge. Bless you all and good luck. Won't be long now! crying

Those BIG black birds are called Rumped Caciques, according to Mirta, it means Indian Chief, that's why so dominant.

Our area in Co. Wicklow is also a release zone for Red Kites, but have we seen any? Guess. We see Buzzards fairly frequently, but no luck yet with the Kites. For obvious reasons, their nesting sites are closely guarded secrets, but that does not preclude a fly-over for us! (Then again... maybe if I hauled my butt away from the computer...)

Your on way less than me!!  wave

Bragging or complaining, Donna-Girl?? Haha!

Bragging: NO  Complaining: NO  Just sayin!  Cheesy

Fly free, little sweetheart Sad These damn windows

Such heartbreaking news! I know it's probably too late and very expensive but it should be mandatory to bird-proof the windows. Maybe some day when all the birds become extinct from window strikes and Wind turbines.  Sad

Kathy Borland was doing rounds today (July 4) as a security guard for CMU when she heard there was a dead hawk on Henry Street behind the Software Engineering Institute.  When she got there she found it was a peregrine, one of Dorothy and E2′s brood who hatched this spring at the Cathedral of Learning.

Kathy got in touch with me, I got in touch with the PA Game Commission’s Beth Fife and then I went to see the bird.

It was “Yellow Girl,” the one we saw so close on Heinz Chapel on June 6.

“Yellow Girl” apparently hit a window on SEI around 1:15pm with so much force that it completely broke her neck.  Kathy found her face down on Henry Street with her wings spread.  She probably died instantly.

Poor Yellow didn’t know what hit her.  She may have been chasing pigeons and thought the window was the sky.  Alas.  There was nothing we could do.

As I said before, if you want to save birds do something about windows!

Windows kill.

This is so very sad. D*# windows!

Thank you so much Carly, it all makes sense, well kinda. Who knows what will happen next season. It's not a good situation, if you ask me. I'd love to see Unity with a new mate and Archer with Beauty. I really don't see that happening and hopefully, if it is the trio again, better things will come of it. We need BABIES!!!

(Don't need any battles either if a new male comes through)

Thanks! I'll post a video clip of the grand finale tomorrow morning.

Well, I've spent the last hour and a half trying to create a highlight clip without any luck. The Einsteins at Ustream have really outdone themselves this time. In their never ending effort to cram more ads into every video, they've broken the ability to create a highlight, at least on a Mac running any web browser. Maybe it works on Windows, but I don't have one handy this morning.

Is Ustream the only source you can use? Probably, too bad. I hate the commercials that just pop up at any given time. Ridiculous! Anything for a buck! Bummer.
