I love Mark's short notes. This is great news too! What a guy, that Stormin! RM and T taught him to be a gentlemen. Feel awful for Irving though.  Sad

I feel the same way Bobbie.  It's been a gift to watch her, she's magnificent  bow bow

Saying good-bye this year will be especially bittersweet, I fear. And they had so hoped to do transmitters on the young this year!

I can't help but feel for her and Beauty. Who knows, maybe Unity will lay some viable eggs now.

I enjoy them very much... and I dare say so will you! Let's give our early-morning and weekend watchers the support they deserve... not that you don't... but you know what I mean... (I will stop now...)

Bobbie, I believe lots do look. Always full of info from the morning and evening!! Smiley And great pics too!

http://www.buffalonews.com/city/article445401.ece Statler got banded today?

Recent headlines involving unexpected animal encounters suggest that area residents and public officials are learning to take more of a live-and-let-live approach to wildlife.

Whether it be a black bear roaming through town or deer jumping cemetery fences, enlightened residents and officials seem more willing to give wildlife a fighting chance for survival -- unless it's destroying personal property.

They banded 2 males and a female.  The new owner requested one of the males be named Dominic after his son.  ( I read this all somewhere but can't find it right now.)

Statler had 2 males and 1 female, approximately 30 days old, all healthy. 1 male bird was named Dominic, after Mark Croce's son (as requested).  Mark Croce is the new owner of the Statler who allowed the DEC access to the 18th floor nestbox for banding.

Sage posted it right below...lol and I knew it! My brain!

WAYNESBORO, NC -- A Norfolk eaglet is on the mend after veterinarians found a chip fracture to her left leg.

The injury was discovered Tuesday during their check-up at The Wildlife Center of Virginia, where they’ve been since the death of their mother in mid-April.

The eagle, NZ, was holding her left foot up and when center workers went to get her, she tried to hop away without putting weight on her leg, officials said.

Radiographs confirmed the injury on the inside of her left leg, right above her band. Officials say the injury is considered “fairly minor.â€

Vets believe NZ ran into something Tuesday morning because the fracture is typically caused by a blunt force rather than becoming entangled or from interaction with a sibling.

NZ is being kept in a separate enclosure through the week to keep her quiet so healing can begin.

Vets gave NZ anti-inflammatory medication and pain medication. They say her leg won’t need a cast or bandages.

Once additional radiographs confirm that her fracture is well calloused, she will return back to the pen with her siblings, officials stressed.

You can watch the eaglets as they grow up at the Wildlife Center of Virginia with the WVEC.com EagleCam.

On Wednesday, contractors were beginning to build the flight pen the three eaglets will eventually use.

Kjellstrom & Lee workers are donating their time, center officials said.

The eaglets were moved out of Eaglecam view Tuesday because material for the build was arriving and there would be lots of activity and noise around their pen.

Two peregine falcons, named Lady Gaga and Spitfire, hatched under Windsor bridge

WINDSOR, Ont. - Two peregrine falcon chicks have hatched on a ledge under the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, Ont.

The hatchlings were removed from their nest under the swooping, screeching watch of their parents — Voltaire and Freddie — today to be checked over, weighed and banded.

The Ministry of Natural Resources brought them down in a pet carrier to check them under a tent near the University of Windsor.

Dennis Patrick of the Canadian Peregrine Foundation says the parents are both from Ohio — Voltaire is from East Lake and Freddie is from Bowling Green.

Patrick says the chicks — a male and a female — will leave the nest by fall and could head anywhere across North America.

The young birds were also named today — the female is Lady Gaga, the male is named Spitfire for Windsor's hockey team.

Patrick says the peregrines are endangered and the nest under the busy bridge to the United States is the only established nest in Essex County.
