May 10 – Owlets 1 and 2 (presumably) left the nest this evening. I've located one of them, who is safe in the nest box tree. I can't find the other one, but that's nothing to worry about - I can't find no. 5, who left on the 8th, either. Hiding is one of a brancher's jobs, and so not finding them is to be expected. Still, I would like to at least catch a glimpse of my three branchers, no matter how unlikely that is. The adults are around and being hyper-protective, just as they should.

Oh they are bad bad bad. LOL

Some better news! This crane's female offspring, W1-06, hatched a chick of her own yesterday! Let's pray it survives to fledge and migrate, as well.

Thank you for the good news, for once!! 

Makes sense that something is different. I don't like battles and if there was one...it's sad. I'm just happy for the female, I'm sure she is just as excited as us! She definitely deserves to be a mom. Thank you Carly, I so appreciate your findings!

Tuesday May 10th

We have just received great news from Linda, our downtown falcon watch coordinator that a hatch has been confirmed at the King Street nest site! While the resident adult female was not giving much up as she is still sticking tight to her incubation / brooding activities, Linda was able to get a quick peek as the female shuffled around on the scrape in an effort to cover up her eggs.

At one point, Linda was able to see at least one fluffy white ball of down among the unhatched eggs, and some egg fragments that has been pushed aside clearly in the view of the camera.

Sadly, Linda is also experiencing some problems again with her Rogers internet service and she could not get connected to the www to do the posting.

It is believed that the actual hatch happened some time on Monday when Linda did her last site visit, as the adult female was paying allot of attention to something going on under her,, but she did not give Linda a view of what all the excitement was about.

Fingers crossed that there will be other eggs hatch over the next few days!
