Here's a few.

I guess they are stuffing and mounting mom eagle.  Sad Personally, I would vote against this. Let her rest, bury her near her nest, plant flowers and a nice plaque.

Where did you hear that?

One the Wildlife Center of V fb page. People are disputing it.

Was it WCV announcing it?  I didn't see anything anywhere else...and I can't FB here at work

No Norfolk announced it.

The mother's remains are still at Norfolk Airport in a refrigerator until the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials decide what to do with them. He notes that the Norfolk Botanical Garden would like to have it mounted for display and that process has been started.

It would be nice to collect all the pictures of Quest before she arrived in Toronto and save them in one location so her fans can easily find them. If you have any pictures, please post them here. Later we can put them in an album or a nice slide show complete with soundtrack that we can present to the folks in Canada.

Are you saying from birth or after she fledged?

Teachers, students invited to falcon banding event on May 17

The Department of Environmental Protection and Pennsylvania Game Commission will conduct the annual peregrine falcon banding event from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, in the auditorium of the Rachel Carson State Office Building in Harrisburg.

DEP invites teachers, non-formal educators and students to attend the event, where biologists will weigh and band the newly-hatched nestlings, called eyases. The event will also be streamed live on the DEP’s website.

On May 17, biologists will retrieve the young peregrines from the nest located on the 15th Floor of the Rachel Carson State Office Building and place a metal band with a falcon-specific code around the left leg of each of the eyases. The band code will be used by wildlife officials and bird enthusiasts to monitor the birds once they leave the nest. In addition, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife band will be placed on the eyases’ right leg, registering each on a federal banding database.

This event offers a unique opportunity to witness wildlife management techniques used to reintroduce and monitor endangered species.

Since 1997, a pair of peregrine falcons has made their home on the 15th Floor of the Rachel Carson State Office Building. While their numbers are increasing, peregrine falcons remain an endangered species in Pennsylvania. Through reintroduction programs, peregrines have adapted to life in urban environments like Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Williamsport. Each year, DEP and the Game Commission track the activities of these birds and share their findings on the web.

The Rachel Carson nest site has been active and reproducing young peregrine falcons for the past eleven years. This year, there is a new female in the nest who arrived in September and has laid a clutch of four eggs.

Incubation has been continuing on the nest throughout the day, with 7Y sitting for almost 2 hours during one period.  At 2.40pm our male could be seen catching a fish by the tree. Once 7Y had successfully made his catch, a crow and a buzzard attempted to take the fish from him. Our male then left with the fish for approximately 15 minutes, while our female called. He then returned with the fish and delivered it to our female who then took the fish and flew away with it.
