When we were Maui a few years ago, we were on a whale watch when 2 males that had been pursuing a female and her calf took an interest in our boat. It's against the law there for boats to approach them so the engines were stopped and we sat waiting as they came alongside the boat. They both started going under it-coming up on one side and then going under to come up on the other side. They would swim alongside the boat, come up, turn on their side and pound their fin against the water. At times, we could have reached down and almost touched them, they were so close! This lasted for about 20 minutes until they got tired of us and went on their way. It was thrilling but kind of unnerving at the same time wondering if they were going to get under the boat and decide to surface but it was the most thrilling time of our lives to see these huge mammals so close up. We saw many Humpbacks the 2 weeks we were there as it was the time of the year when they come to those waters to birth their calves. To see one breach out of the water is breathtaking!
Lucky, lucky, you! I can only wish!

Bobbin has been gone for weeks now. Dave isn't sure but maybe she found a mate and went else where to nest. In the mean time, look at this crazy pic posted by Dave
Caption: How dumb??? - Good job this Malvern female had just eaten breakfast early this morning.....All of the quarry to land in but the stupid pigeon picks a spot inches from a Peregrine! Spotted two Peregrines over the City Centre yesterday afternoon & one about 7am today, looked to land on the Cathedral but I couldn't find it - will check the video later....Dave

Yes, I noticed that they were all in the same area, so it's good she's moving, somewhat. Eggs are a good thing, if she settled. Still want to know! There must be someone in that area that can check. I know Joyce would if she had coordinates!

!!! Peter 2010 At Cherry Beach Toronto April 11, 2011 - Hamilton - Sheraton Hotel Linda Woods Reports:
Paul Marshman and Harry were at Cherry Beach in Toronto this past Saturday and spotted an adult peregrine and a juvenile. Having a zoom lens Paul was able to capture an image of the leg bands of the juvenile and it has been I.D as a juvenile from 2010 Sheraton Hamilton nest. The adult may be one from King St. in Toronto who has been seen there in the past.
Many Thanks to Canadian Peregrine Foundation Volunteers Paul Marshman for the photo and Harry Crawford
!!! Incubation is underway! April 07, 2011 - Windsor - Ambassador Bridge CPF Postmaster Reports:
April 7th - Again thanks to Collette, and some great photos she took of the happenings going on down at the Windsor nest site, it appears that incubation is underway. A single photo says it all. A good photo of Voltaire incubating and later on some great photos of an excited Freddie (and later again) Voltaire suggesting that he get out and protect the territory and bring in more food!
!!! Yellow Pages nest site has two eggs and full time incubation is underway!! April 07, 2011 - Scarborough - Yellow Pages CPF Postmaster Reports:
April 7th - While a long time waiting indeed, it appears that the Scarborough Yellow pages peregrines have finally settled in to a ledge on the north west side and currently on 2 eggs. My visit today was filled with a kind of a bitter sweet emotion, in that the territorial pair are currently incubating two eggs. On the bitter side, it would appear that Lawrie, (the young female peregrine that was produced here in southern Ontario at the St. Lawrence Cement plant in Mississauga - (now called the Holcim nest site), and who’s father was that of Nate - (who we hacked out at the CPF Richmond Hill hack site in 1999), may no longer be the resident female at the Scarborough Yellow pages nest site.
The resident male at Yellow pages appears to be the same guy, (Named Ruben) and was produced in Ohio USA if I remember correctely. The resident male was observed dawning a Black over Green coloured leg band, but sadly, I was too busy “running and ducking” for cover in an effort to get out of his way and off of the roof area to see the digits on his Black over Green coloured leg band.
The resident adult female is very different in her attitude,, (unlike the full body contact hitter Lawrie), she bolted from the nest ledge and I never saw her again until I returned to the ground level. While I can not confirm her band colour, I believe I saw a quick flash of a solid black coloured band, but not really sure. If the resident female is in fact still Lawrie, there is something very different going on, as Lawrie has a “No Fear” attitude and has always been a “full contact hitter” in the past. I have experienced her rathe on four different occasions in previous years both at the old Scarborough Bell nest site and at the yellow pages nest site. Three of the four times, she drew MY blood. I still dawn two of the old battle scars proudly.
A big thank you to security for their assistance in helping us gather the site logistics again this year, and we look forward to seeing a hatch and young ones this year.
It will be very interesting to find out just who the current resident female is, and of course confirm the identity of the resident male?

Have you ever had the terrifying experience of witnessing a bird fly full-speed into a window? According to the Fatal Light Awareness Program, a group that tries to reduce migratory-bird casualties, conservative estimates put the annual total of bird-meets-building collisions in the GTA at one million. Almost all collisions occur during the spring and fall migrations, with death tolls peaking in May and September. The most notorious aviary death trap is Consilium Place, a mirrored office tower complex in Scarborough near McCowan Road and the 401. (More than 8,000 dead and injured birds have been collected there over the past decade.) On April 7, nonprofit groups Ecojustice and Ontario Nature took the developers of Consilium Place to court, arguing that light reflected from the building’s mirrored glass facade constitutes a “contaminant” to the bird population under the Environmental Protection Act. If the bird advocates win, the developer could pay up to $8 million per day in fines—a powerful warning to the owners of other hazardous-to-birds buildings in the city. We charted which towers are most dangerous for our feathered friends, and learned all about bird rehab.
The white-throated sparrow is the bird you’re most likely to see hurtling toward your window at high speeds.
