SPARTA — A Jersey City man's likely regretting he spat on the floor of High Point Solutions.
The DNA extracted from his saliva led police to place him at the scene of the theft of $106,000 of computer equipment, Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said Wednesday.
Adam Brewer, 44, who was already incarcerated in the Hudson County Jail on unrelated charges, was served with burglary and theft charges on March 9 in connection to the Oct. 27 burglary at High Point, Beebe said.
Stolen items appeared for sale in the online classified section of Craigslist, Beebe said. Sparta detectives, along with members of the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office and State Police, organized a sting that netted two off Brewer's alleged accomplices.
Jersey City resident Reginald Winston, 40, and Troy Ceasar, 35, of Brooklyn, N.Y., were arrested on Oct. 30 when they arrived at a pre-arranged location in Denville to sell the stolen goods, Beebe said.
Both men are currently lodged in the Sussex County Jail in lieu of $175,000 each, police said.
Detective Sgt. John Schanstra on March 9 applied for an arrest warrant for Brewer after processing the scene the day of the incident and running DNA tests on saliva found on the floor, Beebe said.
"He was already incarcerated," Beebe said. "They had DNA on file that was a match."
The three men apparently met while working at a moving company, police said.
Brewer's bail was increased by $75,000 due to the Sparta charges, and all of the stolen items were recovered.
Detectives Terrence Mulligan and Keith Hannam assisted with the investigation.

A rare falcon that escaped in Indiana after being hurt in Richmond has turned up in Ohio. Injured Richmond falcon turns up in Ohio
Workers at a cement factory in rural Paulding County, Ohio, found the peregrine falcon on the ground this morning and captured it in a box, Ohio wildlife officials said.
The bird, which apparently had not eaten, had flown about 30 miles.
A wildlife rehabilitation center in Toledo is caring for the bird, which will be returned to Virginia, officials said.
The falcon was found injured Oct. 12 near Shockoe Slip. It apparently had run into a high-rise window.
It escaped March 9 in Fort Wayne, Ind., when two Virginia falconers who were caring for it took it on a trip, so they could tend to it, and their car was broken into.
At least he was found. Now he gets the best care.

Ok, that's cool, as long as they don't lay eggs on a piece of metal some place with no bedding. That would be awful. Same with Seneca last year! Yes, 1 hatched but if she had a nice nest, who knows! Thanks.
