16700  Anything Else / Totally OT / Dave the rottweiler plays parent to menagerie on: 01-Mar-11, 06:46:10 PM
Dave, a rottweiler, apparently has a very strong parental instinct. The pooch has looked after dozens of orphaned animals, including four ducks, three geese, five rabbits, 12 kittens, five puppies and innumerable chicks, according to The Daily Mail.

Amanda Collins, who owns the six-year-old canine, told the news source that Dave first showed his unique caring habits when she brought home a French giant rabbit. She said that he immediately took interest in the bunny, licking and cleaning him.

“They bonded straight away,” Collins said to the news organization. “Now they sleep together, and I've even seen them sharing each other’s food.”

Soon the woman began bringing home more and more orphaned animals, and to her surprise, the dog cared for each one. When she brought ducklings to her pooch, the dog laid in a pool they were using to learn to swim, allowing the baby animals to crawl all over him.

Dave was brought up in an abusive home, but despite his past he seems to be a happy pooch. Collins hopes the dog’s good nature will help dispel some of the stereotypes surrounding his breed.

Moreno said he did not know the bird was a good-luck charm for the other team.

Yeah, because everyone knows it's perfectly acceptable to kick an injured animal as long as it's not a good luck charm.

Jerk.

I can think of a better name!!

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP/The Blaze) — Soccer fans are crying fowl over kicking an owl. In fact, they’re crying a lot worse.

Panama defender Luis Moreno is facing sanctions after he kicked an injured owl that landed on the field during a game Sunday when his Colombian club Deportivo Pereira was playing Atletico Junior.

The owl is a mascot for Atletico Junior and was being treated Monday at a veterinary clinic in Barranquilla. The bird is expected to recover from a slight fracture of its right leg.

UPDATE: THE OWL HAS DIED!!

NewsCore) - BARANQUILLA, Colombia -- A Colombian soccer team's mascot owl died after being kicked by a rival player, Radio Santa Fe reported Tuesday. The bird landed on the field with an apparent broken wing during Sunday's game between Barranquilla's Atletico Junior and Deportivo Pereira. The visitors' Panamanian striker Luis Moreno kicked the owl off the field, provoking a furious reaction from the Baranquilla crowd, who considered the bird to be a good luck charm.

The owl had landed injured near the corner of the field when Moreno walked over and kicked it about three yards. Atletico Junior fans shouted “murder, murder.”

Moreno said he did not know the bird was a good-luck charm for the other team.

I remember a picture from this site a few years ago...pigeons lining the walls, peregrine watching from the perch.  Probably the safest place for the pigeons since peregrines catch their prey on the wing.

I remember that too Ei! Was a great pic. Pigeons like to hang out there.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's on his way. Last year, he was LATE in March. Since he already had a relationship with Beauty, he may be back sooner...Kaver was usually around this time, 1st week of March and sometimes the end of Feb. Hopefully, the watchers will be out in full force this week keeping an eye on things.

I checked my notes over the weekend-the first couple of years Kaver was here he arrived later in March as well.

I don't think there was male that hung out with Mariah this long. Sure she had Winter friends but they moved on. This fella seems to NOT want to leave. Would be pretty low down if Beauty ganged up on Mr T. after all these weeks, if Archer comes back. Strange ways, these falcons. Getting intense now.
