!!! Late Autumn Update
November 29, 2010 - Etobicoke - Sun Life Centre
Kathy Reports:

Both our adult peregrines are still here too!   In October Jack was onsite for several hours a day spending time with Angel.  It was almost like the old days when he only had her as his mate.  But alas in November he’s been dividing his time between sites I assume as he is only here sporadically now.  I do sometimes hear them chupping to each other in the mornings before he flies off in the direction of his other site .

A few weeks ago when we had some Spring like weather, I did witness them go off flying together towards the lake.   The past few weeks Angel has settled into her usual routine of hunting off the towers in the early morning and dozing on her perch and keeping warm the rest of the day.

I am looking into Feral Stat http://www.feralstat.com/ for my outside guys.  The senior mom seems to have retired, as she had no kittens this year, but her daughter has picked up the cause...  I can't afford to catch and neuter them either, but I think the Feral Stat will help.  They are friendly, and the littles I've caught have been VERY sweet.

Feral Stat helped me with my Little Momma who had way too many litters. Unfortunately, she died this past Summer. Can you get some now Carol? I know you had problems last year finding it.

Pretty sad huh Carol? I knew you would not like this one. I can think of better and more needy ways of spending 250K. Yes, animals count but it needs to be legit. Thanks for all your input on HSUS.

That $250K will ALMOST pay Wayne Pacelle's salary  crying
Each and every one of us should be taking food, towels, bleach, kitty litter, cat and dog toys, etc., and whatever $ we can spare, to OUR LOCAL NO-KILL Shelters!  We all love animals, let's REALLY help them!

I could call animal control to try and trap the males but they are so over crowded right now, I'm actually afraid to call and bother them. So what to do.  Sad

Call,.... trap them,...... get the bill..... and I will be happy to help you pay for it.  If you don't those two males could be a dozen males by this time next year.
Giving money to HSUS is like trying to fill a sieve with water.

Thanks NYC, it's not the $$ it's the over-crowding at the pound right now. I will call and see what they say. I know Al is always on the road trapping feral cats. If they could come and trap them, neuter and release, it'll all be god. Thanks, your too kind. They could even be adopted as they seem friendly. They are just afraid of me as I'm always opening my window that faces the feeder and going.."pssst" and they run.

I do here, help my local shelter with food, toys, and donations. They helped me spay my outdoor cats for a minimal fee. NO more kittens, although I loved each and every one of the 40+ kittens I had over the years but enough is enough. I now only have 2 females and 2 new males have come along terrorizing my birds at my feeders. They already caught a Dove and my heart sank. They are young males, maybe 6 to 7 months old. I only put suet out now, no seed and I feel bad for not doing so. I could call animal control to try and trap the males but they are so over crowded right now, I'm actually afraid to call and bother them. So what to do.  Sad

Alexander Milliner, one of George Washington's drunner boys lived in Adams Basin.

Apparently, way back, a woman committed suicide in there and she is still seen standing in the Big window upstairs, staring out. Others have seen people sitting around the dining table eating a feast. Shadows, noises, talking have also been reported there. Who knows!

La Crosse Students Give World a Bird's Eye View of Bald Eagles

American Bald Eagles are fasinating animals and year after year they draw the attention of many.

Now, an elementary class at a La Crosse charter school is giving millions of people a front row seat to the daily activities of bald eagles.

Third and Fourth graders at the Blair-Taylor SoSET Charter school have been studying eagles in preparation for a large scale Internet project called Eagles 4 Kids.

Last Wednesday, students in Mr. Lawerence's class launched a website that includes a live webcam that's been mounted four feet above an Eagle's nest in Ettrick.

The students played a role in this too.

This video camera is the closest to an eagle's nest in the entire nation.

"We've got a bird's eye view looking directly down at this nest," said Mr. Lawrence. "Come February is when they're going to lay their eggs and there's an incubation period of about 35 days. So, come March we should hopefully see some eaglets in the nest."

Community partners have played a big role in making this project possible.

The National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota is one of them.

The Technology Manager at the Eagle Center helped Mr. Lawrence's class create the website and will make sure everyone is able to view the eagles.

The webcam will be up and running Monday.
