There is not much bird showing but,..... I think it is a brown creeper.

You are correct NYC. They call it a Sneaky Tree creeper but real name is Brown Creeper. You know your birds. Smiley

Is that photo supposed to be the returning falcon or is it a stock photo?  It lookes like a juvie to me.

Well now Joyce, you had to ask that. Lemme look!

It didn't say Joyce but it's probably an old photo. Sometimes articles put up old pics but they should caption it as "Junior from 2006" or something like that!

What a very pretty young falcon. Good going you 2!   clap Were the Gulls hit by a car?

I'm pretty sure they were both hit by cars.  The dead one was in the path of cars, while the one that was still living was in the medium.  Hope they're able to save it.  Not sure what caused them to fly so low.  We didn't even know they were there at first, but the Peregrine sure did.

Very sad for the pair but a happy Peregrine. Hope she doesn't bank on that happening again.

I saw this on my home page too.  I understand both sides, but people forget humans can think and rationalize, birds operate by instinct.  I'm so glad there are government sanctions in place.  Good heavens...if they had paid attention 5 years ago, they would have everything in place now with less hassle and probably at less cost.  I really have a hard time with attitudes like that!

How awful for the poor birds. Sad

Meanwhile, island residents like Rich Rapozo warned that some people are talking about refusing to rescue birds they see on the ground in protest of the Saturday games.

For the fifth year in a row a peregrine falcon has taken up winter residence in uptown Charlotte.

This bird shows a marked preference for the Hilton hotel, spending several hours each day, as it has in past years, perched on one of the large letters making up the word "Hilton" high over Third Street.

I was lucky enough to find it loafing on the dot over the "i" Oct. 14.

Where this bird spends the warmer months is a mystery, but clearly she has developed an affinity for Charlotte as a wintering site. Everything a peregrine falcon could want is right there - tall buildings that simulate high cliffs, wide open sky above those buildings, and rock pigeons.

I've never see her actually catch prey, but I've seen the pigeon flock uptown in panicky flight often enough to believe she is targeting them. Some folks are amazed that this bird returns to the same location year after year, but actually it is quite common for many birds to do so.

Bird banders have plenty of data to show that birds return to the same breeding and wintering grounds each year. A flock of white-throated sparrows that spends the winter in your backyard likely contains some individuals from previous years. The Eastern phoebe or barn swallow that nests under your porch or deck each year is very likely to be the same individual, or an immediate descendant, that was there last year.

Several Rufous hummingbirds have returned to winter feeders in Charlotte for up to four years in a row, confirmed by banding data. Once birds find a site that satisfies their basic needs of food, water and cover they will continue to take advantage of the situation. There is also evidence that some migratory birds repeat their migration routes each year, passing through the same backyards and woodlots as they wing their way from the northern to southern United States and even beyond.

Peregrine falcons will often return to the same place each winter.

A rare falcon that was injured in downtown Richmond appears to be healing, experts say.

The falcon, named Harriet, has nested downtown with her mate, Ozzie, since 2003.

A downtown worker found the bird on the ground near Shockoe Slip Oct. 12. Experts believe she crashed into a glassy window.

The bird suffered a right-eye injury, among other problems. Peregrine falcons, which eat smaller birds that they catch in flight, need perfect vision to survive in the wild.

Harriet is being cared for at the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro. The eye appears to be healing, but it's too early to say if the falcon can one day be returned to the wild, a center spokesman said today
