So perhaps one of the reasons Peregrines pick power plants to hang out at is for the warmth they produce. I'm down with calling them stills. Joyce, whatever speeds up your texting I'm all for it! harhar lol

Yeah, yeah poke ...I know my texting is the slowest.  If anyone could see me trying to get out a quick watch report  tired - it takes forever!  My cell keys are so small that I have to type with a finger nail.  And it's hard to concentrate when you're being asked "Are you done yet?" aaarggh

Your better than me, I abbreviate everything...ask MAK...she writes back.. HUH!!!

Lily: 2007-2010

RIP Lily Sad

The Wildlife Center lost a valued member of its educational animal ambassador team in late September when Lily the Virginia Opossum passed away.

Lily was brought to the Wildlife Center of Virginia during the summer of 2007, after being rescued from a dog attack (about 13 percent of the animals brought to the Wildlife Center are victims of domestic-animal attacks) and living for three months in the home of her rescuer.  If Lily had come to the Wildlife Center immediately after the attack, she probably could have been returned to the wild; however, by the time she arrived she was too tame to be released.  Instead, Lily joined the Wildlife Center’s Education Department, becoming one of about 20 non-releasable wild animals who help our educators illustrate the problems faced by Virginia’s wildlife.

During her three years at the Wildlife Center, Lily appeared in 423 environmental education programs and was seen by nearly 55,000 people.  Her last appearance was just a week before her death, at a program delivered to 100 first-graders at Brownsville Elementary School in Crozet.   She was a favorite with adults and children alike, helping to educate people about the risk to wildlife of free-roaming pets and the dangers that food and trash thrown from cars pose to opossums and other animals.Quinn & Lily

Lily’s fondness for bananas and ability to sleep through anything endeared her to Wildlife Center staff.   She snoozed contentedly in her crate while being transported around the state for education programs and often napped in an educator’s arms as she was displayed to audiences that might include several hundred enthusiastic children.  At 3½ years old, she had lived a long time for an opossum (opossums in the wild rarely live beyond two years).  Through her years of service, Lily left a positive impression of an animal that is frequently misunderstood and disliked.

Just had the absolute privilege of being eye to eye with a Peregrine. Unfortunately it was in the Vet's practice here in Kilkee where he is treating a rifle bullet wound to it's left shoulder which had become infected and maggoty. Thankfully it seems to be responding to the antibiotics and TLC, is drinking water but won't eat. Any suggestions? This is the third raptor (others Kestrel and Sparrow Hawk) that he has taken in with similar injuries in the last month or so.

Poor Falcon...found this on FB

Thought for Today (Appropriate for a rainy day in Rochester!)

"When life rains on your parade

.....bring out the slip'n'slide!"

I walked into a store yesterday (during the rain) and did my own Slip N Slide! I don't normally do "splits" but can NOW! Ouch!

wouldn't it be nice if the powers that be would let a nest box be put up for the PPE

Ya never know BC, I think they took one down from over there a while ago, (if I'm not mistaken). I read online somewhere they had a nest box over there for years and no falcons showed up. Figures now they like it.  notworthy

So not an Auk sp. at all??

Looking at that big tummy makes me wonder about a goose sp... but what's it doing in that habitat? Could just be a pond on a windy day, of course... (and really, Bobbie... geese do migrate, so who knows where you might see them!)

Trust me out of many many guesses on this site....only 1 person got it, sooo good luck.
