Wow Anne, that's quite interesting. The "can" part cracked me up. You answered my next question, has any other bird tried to get in? Guess not with mom and dad on guard duty. We all need to find our niche in life and I guess you found yours. At least you know they'll be back in the Spring to do it all over again. Thanks for answering my questions. Good luck with fledging.  Sad

Here are some photos of my little pigeon squab boarder.  He is finally quiet now, but what a noisy day!!  Mr. Demanding has lots of loud requests of his poor parents!!  And when I go near, he fluffs up and attacks with great whacks of his wings or a good peck of the beak!!  All right, I KNOW I shouldn't go near, but he is so fun to bait! clap  But, for all his grown-up temper, he hasn't climbed out of the tub and started exploring!  But, never fear, he will and I'll be tripping all over him soon!  I've never had a pigeonette fledge from inside my apartment, so this will be a first.  Just out the cat door, across the cement floor that remains and off into the wild blue yonder!!  I hope!  Otherwise, it will be the big toss!   hysterical

First, really cool pics, second, how did mom and dad know he was in there? Their not afraid to come in? Wow, this is a first for me. Where do mom and dad sleep at night? Lastly, do you leave your sliders open all day for them? Do tell more on this. Gonna be hard when they leave but...you always have a family on your deck. What happened to Rocky & Dovey?  Sorry so many ?'s.

Oh, Donna!!!!  That just about covers my bird watching experiences!!!!  What I am waiting for is for the bird to have a speaker and say "I am an eagle."  It just might be the only way I can easily identify them!

Me too jeanne...I told MAK a few weeks ago, I saw a tiny little brown bird. I've never seen one before, (what else is new)? So I googled "tiny little brown bird"... stupid and I got hundreds of entries and still none of them were what I saw.  silly  Yeah, so...uh huh.

Here is the last know position from the tracking device of Noah on May 17. We posted this photo at that time as well with the promise of more when we got them. Unfortunately, there have been no updates to the tracking device map since that time so this is still the same tracking map that was posted in May. The tracking device has either failed, fallen off or Noah has not moved since then -- none of these possibilities has been confirmed with physical evidence. A team was sent out in early June to this spot from a Virginia birding group, and they were unable to find any evidence of the device or the bird. We know that tracking devices work very well as the one on Letha still works 4 years later.

Hope he's OK, by the sound of it, not sure.

That seems to be the problem all over, people running through the RED light. This is why I wait a second or 2 before I go. Yeah, I get beeped at from the car behind me but I avoided being hit numerous times because I wait. It turns Amber for a reason.  stupid
19392  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / Pigeon owner protests at Derby Cathedral's peregrines on: 08-Sep-10, 10:00:55 AM
A pigeon keeper from Derby has claimed his birds are being eaten by peregrine falcons from Derby Cathedral.

Wayne Hatton, who keeps high-flying Tippler racing pigeons at his home on Stockbrook Street, says the peregrines have feasted on seven of his birds over the past two years.

He feels Derby Museum is wrong to have installed a peregrine nesting platform at the cathedral in 2006.

But the RSPB says his pigeons are more likely to have crashed than been eaten.

Hatton told BBC Radio Derby: "It's unnatural for peregrines to be in a box on Derby Cathedral. They should be on a mountain or cliffs.

"The public might like them and think they're nice to see but they've killed 50 different types of birds."

But Guy Shorrock, senior investigations officer for the RSPB, says Hatton has got his facts wrong.

He said: "The comments on peregrines impacting on other birds are a bit of an urban myth.

"Peregrines are rare birds that sit at the top of the food chain. You don't have to worry about the population of other birds at all.

"For every 10 racing pigeons which are lost, nearly nine of them have nothing to do with birds of prey.

"It's actually things like straying and collisions which are the biggest problem."

Nick Moyes, from the Derby Cathedral Peregrine Project, said he had some sympathy for Hatton's plight.

He added: "I don't follow the logic of the argument that says a ledge high up on a tall stone building isn't the peregrine's natural habitat.

"I have to ask how natural is a pigeon loft?

"Peregrines were being reported on Derby Cathedral tower well over 100 years ago.

"They see it simply as any other cliff or mountain ledge and have probably been using it on and off as a look-out post for hunting ever since it was built 450 years ago."

I couldn't watch when I saw the pigeon struggling to escape. (Now I feel sick). I am so weak.
