Ivy is getting around. Band confirmation tells us this is her yesterday just down the Carl Hall Road from Toronto Wildlife Centre. I spotted her yesterday high up a tree while on a "mission".

It's always a thrill when out and about, and I spot the fastest bird on the planet in my travels. This one is sporting some bling as you can see on her legs. The numbers tell us a lot... her name is Ivy, she was born in New Jersey back in 2013. She's been spotted around Toronto in a few places the last couple months. She's looking for a permanent home and a mate. Yesterday she was hanging out very close to Toronto Wildlife, just down Carl Hall Road a short bit. Cool!

Me three!  heart heart heart

There is not even a passing mention of Tardy on the site. No indication that they might, or will, search for the little guy.

Reminds me too much of last year.  Sad

They need watchers!!! Especially here, too many disappear!! Heartbreaking!!  Sad  We need some traveling watchers!

Apparently the second to fledge was Walga, and Tumbler remains by herself.  Walga was found on the ground by a maintenance worker, apparently uninjured, and was placed in a tree.  Tardy has not yet been spotted.

UGH, where is that boy!!  Sad
I'm not too concerned.  He's around somewhere. I don't think they have a lot of watchers there.

I believe they said the same about Aspro last year and he was never seen again! I worry!!

“They’re pretty famous for finding places to hide acorns,” says Koenig, who has studied the bird for years. Koenig says he once saw a traffic signal stuffed so full of acorns that it was unreadable.

Typically, the acorn woodpecker stores nuts one at a time, digging a small hole in a tree and pushing in a solitary acorn for safe keeping. That keeps it dry and somewhat protected from thieving squirrels. The birds have been known to cache as many as 50,000 individual acorns in a single redwood tree. Occasionally, they’ll put a batch of acorns together in a dead tree or hollow wall (or an antenna), although storing acorns in groups can increase the risk of spoilage from moisture or mold.

Both falcons and sparrow hawks exist upon their ability to kill, and feed upon other bird life. The Song Bird Trust says that hawks kill 250,000 song birds a day in Great Britain.
