This is believed to be Bobbin's nest on the cliff!  Her mate and the nest of eyases have all deceased!!

POISON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  How awful and painful and Horrific who ever did this!!   crying Sad

Male found at bottom of cliff nest!!

We have delayed this for a while but now here's the Bobbin update & it's not good news.
For those new to the site 'Bobbin' (named in a Worcester News competion by local school children) female ringed 'T2' + BTO ring was born here in 2009. Out of the four chicks she was the one who has always returned & over wintered back in Worcester.
We've know of her nesting location some 25 miles North West of Worcester for three years now thanks to Pete who's kept us informed of her progress. This has never been disclosed as with all other rural sites for the bird’s protection, even more important here as the site has a recent history of persecution.
Sadly our fears for their safety became reality in early June when the Male was found dead below the nest. With no obvious signs of shooting or other injuries he was sent to Natural England for a toxicology report, this took some time the result was returned as we thought - poisoned by the pesticide diazinon. Both chicks were also dead in the nest, most likely poisoned too.
We still don't know if Bobbin survived, of course we all hope she has, a female was spotted flying around above the site shortly after the dead male was found but we don't have an ID. If she had retuned to Worcester there is also a good chance our new resident pair may have driven her off - only time will tell.
If anyone has information regarding the poisoning or sightings of a female peregrine white ring T2 please message us rather than post here.

We’ve posted some more video clips of these peregrines (FYI – Peregrinus, subspecies macropus – meaning “large feet” – you learn something new every day!):

Feeding time, with Diamond and the three chicks.

Feeding time, with Bula and the three chicks. Note the difference in size over the chicks – the peregrine male can be up to 1.3rd smaller in stature than the female.

Cuter by the day, although, as you can see in the cameras, that the teenage phase has begun and the main flight feathers are beginning to poke through now. By all calculations (Cilla can back me up here) these chicks have possibly another 8-10 days before thoughts of fledging take over and they chance the 50 metre drop to make their first controlled “solo” flight, which, in the past, hasn’t always been plain sailing. We’ll be watching closely and hoping that the weather improves on last year when Aspro was blown clean out of the eyrie and lost.

changing of the plumage
Published 4 November, 2015 | By Cilla Kinross

Amazing how the moulting appears to be happening so fast, almost as one watches.  Some are changing slightly faster than the others, but this is quite natural and does not necessarily mean they are necessarily maturing more slowly.

Few whole birds have been brought in as prey, but I think it has been mainly juvenile starlings this week, plus a pigeon and a galah, easy to recognise as they only bird round her with pink plumage.

The chicks still huddle together at night and when well fed during the day, but otherwise they scoot around the box somewhat alarmingly (as you’ve noted) near the ledge.

Also getting pretty cheeky.  This was two days ago.

Hi, again - Piggot is sitting on the perch of the nest box. No photos at the moment, overcast and high up so a photo is not worth taking - I heard her chattering as she flew from
Bank of America, then she landed. It's good seeing her around more frequently!

2036  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / Duluth juvie falcon found in Lima, Peru on: 05-Nov-15, 09:11:40 AM
During the migration season, it can be a challenging (and dangerous) time for birds. This is true especially for birds during their first migration.
It is during this time, and shortly after fledge, where the banding team receives the majority of the reports from the Bird Banding Lab on the east coast. Many times this report isn't very positive, because the report informs us that the bird was killed or found dead for some reason (hit by plane, starvation, shot, etc). However, this past week, the MN team received some very interesting reports. One of these was that a young male falcon from Duluth, MN was found in LIMA,PERU! That is over 4200 miles to our south, and the farthest distance we've ever received a report in the 34 years of this program!
This little male was found in a soccer enclosure in the area, and turned into a person who is involved with captive breeding of raptors. A local biologist who also bands peregrines in Peru was notified and he in turn, notified the banding lab, who then contacted the bander. The bird is slightly thin and has a slight wing droop but is hoped with some food in his system and some "bed rest", he will be on his way out the door soon. Hopefully he will stick around in Peru for the winter (safely) and then return to the north in the spring. Where he turns up is anyone's guess! This is another bit of information into the lifestyles of birds, and why we are continuing our work with banding as many young peregrines as possible. This little guy is living up to his latin name "wanderer"!
Stay tuned-as we receive information from our colleague in Peru, we'll let you know.

Banded on June 15, 2015     He went FAR!!!!!!
