@ 2:29 both sleeping like the big Falcons
a few minutes later:

At 3:02 am, the Main Cam went out. Nothing after that for me.

The girls woke at 5:06 ready for their big day of running around the ledges
No time wasted to start the day
Looks like Jemison found a morsel as Callidora watches
C is getting a slow start but J's been all over already.

I think that last sequence was Callidora taking food from Beauty.  I was on the street below and watched her come in with the food and then leave to land on the SE ledge one level above the nest box level. Archer was on the top I-beam of OCSR.

I stand corrected.  My initial thought had been Beauty, but then Archer came in moments later and joined Callidora in the nest box and shared the snack.  I didn't see a switch, but then cam 1 was panning around looking for Jemison.  They are quick.

It's all a blurr!

Stills from the video

Beauty incoming                       Archer and Beauty arrive simultaneously

Beauty moves in...                     ...steals the snack and leaves

(need a new download of video editing software...hopefully tomorrow...)

The last pic Ei, is where I thought Jemison got spooked and flew off the ledge. It all happened so fast, thanks for the pics. It was quite a riot for a second.  heart

What got my  heart pounding was when the Cam was panning around looking for Jemison!

In the old days when we did all that panning around it was just the operator who was sweating.  The viewers just saw still pics from the search at one-minute intervals.  Now we can all sweat together.

AMEN!

That was some excitement...recap...

8:08 Beauty brings in dinner & feeds the girls

8:20 Dinner's over & Callidora is picking at a wing while Jemison's on top of the box.

8:22 Archer arrives with a snack.  Beauty flies up and steals the snack in a flurry of wings.  Next thing we know, Jemison's not on the roof any more.  Panning around...no Jemison.  We can hear her...

8:24 Adult arrives with a snack...Callidora grabs it & runs into the box.  (Have to check the tape...I think Beauty brought it...and then...)

8:26 Archer arrives & eats some of the snack then feeds the rest to Callidora

8:28 Jemison pops up

...she was on the side of the box all along!

PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was a rough few minutes EI. I'm still sweating from it!

Uptown Theater

4816 N. Broadway

Thanks in large part to a successful reintroduction program in the 80s and 90s, the peregrine falcon is the official bird of Chicago, doing its best to keep the pigeon population manageable. But who’s actually ever seen one in the “wild” in the city? Peregrines are still seen from time to time perched atop the Metropolitan Correctional Center and other buildings in the South Loop area, but the Field Museum’s Stephanie Ware reports on her Chicago Peregrine Falcon Blog that the “prison pair” hasn’t nested at the MCC for a couple of years.

There are an estimated 20 nesting pairs in the city, and Mary Hennen, who heads the Field’s Peregrine Project, recommends the Uptown Theater, where a couple of peregrines have been nesting for years. One recent Sunday morning I drove by and spotted a frenzy of activity: one falcon had apparently brought home a kill and was in the process of feeding two chicks recently banded by Hennen. Evidently the birds, known for favoring cliff-dwelling nests, have taken to the barren backside of the abandoned theater. That’s just one more reason for the preservation of the glorious old building—as if we needed another. For point-and-click birders, one surefire place to see peregrines is on the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Peregrine Falcon Nest cam, affixed atop University Hall: tiny.cc/peregrines.

They are still all fluffy:
