Very cute!  However, Squirrels leave blood and urine all over the place, which is why we have moved all of our bird feeders to the back yard and away from the white porch.

BLOOD!!  Shocked from????

I checked last night and a falcon was on the egg.   Yesterday morning I saw both of them.   I compared a picture from last year and it looks like the same pair.   I did expect to see another egg this morning.

Thank you Debbie, I also, expected to see another egg. Hope all goes well with them. I wish they would update.

That is... rolling over, fluffing up the pillows, snuggling into the duvet, happily thinking of another hour in bed...

I was thinking more along the lines of a "pop-over", "crumpet" "sweet roll"...(which I guess you did Bobbie) in your Duvet!!  LOL  That was good.  2thumbsup

Question for Shaky: Do you an idea how many people view the cams? I got  a message from a woman yesterday saying she saw my pic of Kaver on fb and asked if that was Kaver from the Kodak Falcons. Obviously, lots watch but are not members here or on Yahoo.  Interesting to know some numbers

There is no way to accurately determine the number of people (aka visitors) who view the cameras. We can only count the number of hits, visits, and unique IP addresses.

We've received nearly 6 million hits in just the first 12 days of April, but hits do not equal visitors.

We've received over 58,000 visits in the first 12 days of April, but visits don't equal visitors either.

Our site was accessed by nearly 14,000 IP addresses in the first 12 days of April, but once again, IP addresses don't equal visitors because a visitor can access our site from more than one IP address (work, home, school, etc.) and more than one person can share an IP address. However, this is the closest we can get to estimating the number of visitors we receive.

So let's say that roughly 14,000 people have visited Rfalconcam in the first 12 days of April. For all of March, the number was roughly 17,000.

Wow, I'm impressed with the #'s...thank you Shaky. MK were very popular and so are A&B. I just love how people "stumble upon" this site and your viewer. Out of the blue, they view.  clap

Today is a great day for egg #3 Bobbie.

22499  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / 15 Brown Pelicans found dead, cause unknown (Fort Pierce, Fla) on: 13-Apr-10, 06:43:44 AM

Fort Pierce- 15 Brown Pelicans were found dead earlier today near Taylor Creek spillway in Fort Pierce. Florida Fish and Wildlife says it appears that the birds had been there for some time, and that there are no obvious signs of trauma. The birds may have been poisoned in some way.

Brown Pelicans are protected under both state and federal laws. Authorities suggest that if they become a nuisance you dispose of any scraps of food, particularly fish, quickly. It is illegal to harass and feed them. Brown Pelicans are very social birds who often travel in large flocks and will return to spots where they have found previous sources of food. If they find spots where they recieve "free meals" they wont migrate and will suffer from exposure to the cold.

The Brown Pelican was placed on the endangered species list in 1970. After the 1972 ban on DDT the species' reproduction rates improved significantly, and in 1985 was removed from the endangered species list.
22500  Other Nature Related Information / General Nature Discussion / Plastic bag in raptor nest causes concern (OR) on: 13-Apr-10, 06:38:39 AM
"If you watch Raptor Cam for any amount of time you see she's moving it around, re-arranging it. In fact there's a ton of garbage in that nest, said Sallinger. "When you get up close, you find out there's' all kinds of stuff in there," he said.

But a plastic bag? Won't it smother the chicks when they hatch? Won't it collect water and keep them wet and cold.?

Sallinger says, probably not.

"She's got to continue to rearrange her nest to keep her eggs safe," said Sallinger. "If she sees water accumulating underneath them for example she's gonna make changes," he said.

This is, after all, an urban family. So perhaps it should not surprise us to find a grocery bag in a hawk's nest.

Sallinger says the hawk parents brought it into the nest. A state lawmaker who wants to ban the plastic bags says its time to get them out.

PORTLAND Ore., -- Just after four o'clock on Friday afternoon, a red tailed hawk pecked and pulled at a white plastic grocery bag in its nest.

It's one of the best known nests in the West, since it has a 24-hour web camera pointed at it as it rests several stories up on the side of a Portland office building.

Its a fan favorite, the KGW Raptor Cam.

The Audubon Society's bird expert, Bob Sallinger is well aware of the bag.

He is not going to move it.

"We have one camera on one bird nest and a bag shows up in there," said Oregon State Senator Mark Haas. "So, do you think this is happening in other bird nests, in other fish ponds and on the beach. Yes it is," Haas said.

Haas tried but failed to ban the bags during the last special session of the Oregon legislature. He promises to try again in 2011.

"Takes a thousand years for a plastic bag to decompose," said Haas. "And I just think we can do better than that in Oregon. This is a state that should be leading the way," Haas said.

In the meantime, the red-tailed hawk family seems content with their urban In the meantime, the red-tailed hawk family seems content with their urban furniture. One of the hawk parents sat on the plastic bag, and the eggs, all afternoon.
