Good thing there were no eggs in that nest!

Your not kidding!

I don't like the fights, but it was a fascinating pictorial capture.  Just a guess, but I don't think either bird was going for the kill because 3 images clearly showed opportunity.

I hope it's over, I think they expect more. Boy they like to pin each other down and expose that chest area. Sad.

Thousands of people are watching Phoebe's hummingbird eggs hatch live online, right now

She's off the nest! She's off the nest!

Phoebe is a hummingbird tending two eggs the size of Tic Tacs on a tiny nest in southern California. One foot away, a small but obtrusive webcam sits in the same residential rosebush, recording her every move and broadcasting it live on the Internet.

Whenever the sun is up, thousands of fans log on to phoebeallens.com in the hopes of watching Phoebe's nestlings hatch. Most of the time, they just watch Phoebe as she sits on her eggs, turning her head from side to side and swaying in the breeze. Every so often, one can hear the chattering of other birds, or the sound of an airplane overhead. Watch it live here for yourself.

The number of watchers surges every time Phoebe flutters away from a moment. Her fans announce the news on Twitter, drawing more and more followers to the action. One of the tiny eggs is already cracking. A hole that that became visible yesterday has grown considerably in size; some dedicated followers claim they can see the tip of a beak protruding at times.

According to The Guardian:

"I showed family and friends and then posted on a forum or two and now it's huge, very popular in Europe. Poland and Hungary are avid!" said Joe Dellwo, 45.

"Yeah, and my bush. Drives my wife nuts that she can't prune ... I really get all caught up in the whole thing. It hurts to watch an egg begin to hatch but not quite make it. I can't help but think of her as a loved pet."

High Drama
These photos were captured on March 15th. They depict a confrontation between two falcons in the nestbox which lasted about an hour. It seems the intruder was finally driven out, but this may not be the end of it...

I don't like these fights for rights.  14 pics when you click the link

You can always view this forum as unthreaded if you like that format.

How do you do that Shaky?

I just popped in to see what was what in the chatroom and people had been in and out, without writing anything... Oh well... I'm feeling rather down about this whole rfalconcam format (as are a lot of people I keep track of via [private] email) -- it is all chopped up and you can't get a general feeling for how everyone is and what's going on, without running back and forth from section to section and losing track of where you've been...  I think that a regular chat might be a good idea... I'll have to talk to some of them and see if they would agree... I know that timing is a problem, with the group composed of folk from around the world, but if there were more members involved... I don't know.
I just miss the old kfalconcam board a lot...   dogwag

Best wishes to all!

I tend to agree with you Anne, we lost  a lot of good people switching over to this forum.  KFC  was more close and personal and much easier to keep track of. I check over there from time to time and there's nothing happening. It's a shame because at one time, we were all like family. I'll post anywhere because it's what I do...(obviously). I can adapt to change but I don't like it. I do like the 1 page only format, (where it's easier to catch up). I get by but I do miss all you guys from KFC. The people here are great too.

We haven't had many chats here  because: 1. They weren't scheduled. 2. Someone has to take the initiative to start a chat. 3. Most aren't on at the same time to join, but that can be changed with at least a scheduled notice.  As far as people popping into chat and not writing is maybe because they are just testing it out. I've done it myself. When we do have our next chat, please join us, you, Nora and others. I'll be happy to send you an email to let you know when.

wave   That is a female downy woodpecker. The males have red on the nape of their neck. They are sparrow sized. The hairy woodpecker is robin sized with longer bills than the downy.  Hope this helps Donna.

yes, I did notice the beak is longer on the hairy. Thanks guys, I see her every day at the feeder. The male too..with his red and the Red bellied too. Love woodpeckers.
