Gala schoolboy flies high at pigeon racing awardsImage related to story 394864, see caption or article text

A BIRD fancier from Galashiels is continuing to cause a flap in the world of pigeon racing.

Kieran Jamieson-McDermott, of Magdala Terrace, was believed to be one of the youngest ever to try his hand at the sport in Scotland last year aged 11.

He overtook his 51-year-old dad, Eggy, as the youngest member of the Galashiels and District Homing Club.

And now, this year, the Galashiels Academy pupil has been awarded a special prize by Scottish National Flying Club for becoming the first member under 18-years-of-age flying on their own.

His proud mum, Angela said: "Kieran has continued to do quite well in the Club and Federation this Season, and was delighted when he won the trophy at national level.

"He had a great night out at the national dinner and dance where he received lots of praise from many successful and experienced pigeon men.

"Another high point was winning a club race but the lowest point was when he witnessed a Peregrine Falcon snatch one of his birds about 50 feet from home."  OOPS!

Thanks Donna and Janet
Our "Sinterklaas" was great, it always is!
And I didn't agree with Carla, it's not only for children, we always celebrate it with lots of adults and we like  heart it very much. But everybody is doing it in their own way, it's the same with  Christmas.
Just like every year, here a few pictures from our "Sinterklaas"

1) a baby in an egg

2) A tree, no leaves but money is growing on it, very easy.

3) a castle

 bunny greetings Aafke

anything I think. Around here you see them in parking lots looking for garbage. Sometimes they come down from the lake.

Oh yeah, the parking lots are full of Gulls here too...but never saw one circling over my house. I'll feed him anything he wants. I don't think he'll be  back....just a fluke.

I often notice a lot of gulls here in the Washington, DC, area after a storm passes offshore. Maybe the gull in your yard is low because it is hunting for food.

Paul

What do they eat? Not suet, I'm sure.

Donna - This is a marvelous saga of Jeff's Antartic adventures.  He sent some great pics and I love the penquins.  But, those seal eyes get me every time.  So where is Jeff now?

~Joyce

Joyce, he's still in Antarctica until Feb, then he's off to New Zealand for a while, then home to Oregon, then to NJ to see his old friend.  Embarrassed

Why is there a Gull flying around my yard. I have  never ever seen one flying this low before...especially right above my house. What a weird day for me. Hawk hasn't come back yet. I'm paranoid and keep looking out the window to see if it's around. Birds just started coming back to feeder.   scared blue
