Monday, October 12, 2009 It is over a week since the first chick emerged therefore we would expect all of the eggs to now have hatched. Today we can clearly see three chicks as Sheila arrives with a morning meal. However what is not so clear is if one unhatched egg remains. It appears from this picture today that perhaps this is the case. So, I guess #4 didn't .....YET....Ohio's last egg didn't hatch for a long while after the rest and they thought it was a rotten egg......stranger things have happened.

I'm trying to change my avatar to a falcon from an owl. However, the owl keeps showing on my profile when I click change. Friend made the tag for me. Can anyone help? I've attached it, so hope you can see it, or maybe needs resizing. Thx Val in MI
I see the Falcon, too, and it's very nice! Carol WV The falcon is very nice Val...apparently, no problems.

Don't they like and quickly leave? Nice pics Mirta...are they rare in your country or is it just pure luck if you happen to see one on eggs? I love the beaks. Thanks Oystercatchers aren´t rare here, we have nests almost every 50 meters along quieter beaches. But they are theatened by people walking, on ATV (even they are prohibited in these beaches) and dogs. Last Saturday I went again to see the nest, found another one with 3 eggs, but being a 3 days weekend, a lot of people were walking or driving disturbing the birds. You can see a man with his son driving very close of one oystercatcher in the picture I´m copying. I tried to stop him to explain why he shouldn´t be there, but he decided to ignore me. I hate that kind of people Mirta Yes, ignorant people are just that IGNORANT!! Thanks for trying Mirta.. Thanks for the info too

Russia's German-built Sapsan high speed train is almost ready to roll - December 18 has been named as the commencement date for its regular public service between Moscow and St. Petersburg. The Sapsan, which name means "peregrine falcon" in Russian, can seat 604 passengers and has a maximum speed of 250 kilometres an hour. The train will cruise at approximately 200 kilometres an hour for most of the journey, however, due to the majority of the track not being able to support the train's maximum speed. The Express-3 automated booking system has already posted the train's timetable. The trains will run three times daily - with a train leaving both cities at simultaneous times. The first trains are to leave at 6:45 am and arrive at their destination at 10:30 am - with a total travel time of 3 hours and 45 minutes. The following trains will depart at 1 pm and arrive at 5:15 pm - with the journey time taking longer due to five stops made along the way at Tver, Vyshny Volochek, Vologoye, Okulovka and Chudova. The evening run will leave at 7 pm and take 3:45 minutes to complete its journey.
The train will boast two seating classes - first and second class. Ticket prices have yet to be announced, but the operators Russian Railways have suggested that the journey will be competitively priced compared to flying. Russian Railways chief suggested 3,900 roubles as a likely figure late last year.

Here is the Puzzle of the Week 226
It's a picture of 2 curlews. There were lots of Curlews on Texel, but most of the time they are far away. At one moment I saw a few a lot closer, close enough to take a picture.
