Another shot of our new female - will have to do something about selecting a name! When I spoke with ODNR, the officer said that unbanded birds like her are probably a sign of how successfully peregrines are breeding nationwide - more birds means less need to track each one, so fewer birds are banded. There's an upside to everything.

It's as plain as the beak on your face. Surge the falcon is dead, and how can it be from anything other than a broken heart?

Shaky, this is definitely not a big deal, but are you aware that the preview of posts isn't working? It says "fetching preview" but nothing ever happens.

Mine does that also but eventually it shows the preview!! Sometimes I have to wait 15 to 20 seconds. I thought it was my slow PC.

I feel for them during all this snow but they do such a good job keeping the eggs and eaglets warm!

I enjoyed that clip very much! I feel great sympathy for the eagle after just shoveling 6 more inches of heavy snow off the driveway and feeders, but at least I don't have to incubate eggs in this weather.

Thursday, March 5, 2015 - The Hamilton Community Peregrine Project regrets to advise all Falconwatchers that Surge has died. Although apparently well when first seen at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) this morning, while being examined he suddenly expired. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to see if it is possible to learn what caused his death.

That is just so sad!! Fly free Surge!

  New Update from Hamilton Fledgewatch Group

The Owl Foundation reports that Surge was found this morning with a rapid heart rate and in respiratory distress. He was taken to the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) for examination and they believe he may be having seizures. After receiving medication Surge is now stable, but he'll stay at the OVC overnight for observation. We will keep you posted!
