Report and photos went up overnight.  As always, they got some amazing shots - her foot looks fully healed and she seems to be doing just fine.  She's such a warrior!  notworthy

She said they will be updating their Facebook page with the news and photos later today or tomorrow  mbanana

That's great, I was so worried about her and her foot! Thanks

I don't think we had 2 and 2 today only because the cameras are in such a delay, that MAK sees the falcons at the nest before they even get there on the cams. Been monitoring this for a few days now and I know they are off, especially the stills. DC had plenty of time to leave the nest and be at BS in under 2 minutes. I don't know what's with the camera's lately but like Annette said the other morning....they were at the nest and gone before I even saw them on the live cam. I believe both were DC!

CORRECTION to my blog this morning about the frozen egg. Yes it was frozen but it might be viable. It wasn't incubated yet so who knows. Might hatch.  Kate

 Shocked

  Kate's blog

It’s very cold this morning:  14 degrees at the airport, 21 degrees in my city backyard.  Assuming the Cathedral of Learning is just as warm as my backyard (1.5 miles away), the temperature at the nest has been below freezing since 8:00pm last night.

For whatever reason, Dorothy stopped sheltering her egg around 9:30pm.

Peregrine falcons don’t begin incubation until they’ve laid their next to last egg in the clutch.  However, they do shelter the eggs to keep them from freezing.  In her younger years Dorothy would have been on top of the egg in weather like this, not merely standing over it, and it would look like she’s incubating.  But she’s not.

The egg is certainly frozen and will never hatch.

This spring Dorothy is 15 years old, retirement age for wild peregrines.  She has a reason for not protecting this egg.  I don’t know what it is.   Sad

Glad she is OK....still feel bad for her. Those man Eagles!!!

Me too. I couldn't believe he abandoned her to take up with new female after everything they've both been through this past year.
I'm hoping it's her, but really can't tell from the picture.  Why do people keep saying Larry abandoned her?  It's just like the peregrines and Lucy may have beat a lot of odds in the last year, but she sure couldn't fight another big female and males most times would fight the males.  Male eagles pick a nest spot and do a lot of the building and share it with their female.  He was protecting and staying with his nest.  We see the peregrines fight and whichever one wins stays with the mate that is there already, both the male and female don't leave normally.  I hate to see what happened and do worry about her, but we all know from the sounds of things she also was not the original Lucy, what happened to the first one?  I'm sorry, I'm not directing this at you Kris, or anyone in particular, just venting about the situation.  I DO hope someone can find and get a good picture of Lucy just so we know.  Sad

I understand exactly what you are saying Nora, it's just the way it is in the bird world. As humans, we may not like it and we have an over flow of emotions about it all. I'm sure Lucy understands more than us about all this and knows what she must do to protect herself! If she was well, she would have fought for that nest. I just feel kind of sad for her.
