5479  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Where Do They All Go After Fledging? on: 04-Jul-13, 10:48:48 AM
I'm wondering what happens after they fledge. As I recall in past years, the eyas and parents left the nest box pretty soon after. How long after they fledge does this happen? And where do they go? Do they leave the area or sleep in trees or on buildings or what?

Just from past experience, they fledge, (hopefully safely), make visits to the nest, may even sleep there at night. As they build their flight muscles they may roost on other building during the night. B and DC know where they are. Soon they will be flying all over Rochester, even making trips out of the area and back. (Callidora)! Then 1 day, they just fly off and keep flying out in the big wonderful world, no good-byes, just gone! Sad. Hopefully, some day they end up at a nest with a mate and someone spots them and records it.

3 RTH's hatched here this year- Peanut, the lone male, and the "formel twins".  Sadly, one of the twins flew hard into a window this afternoon playing with her siblings and died on impact.  Fly free, F2.   sorrow

Oh shoot, they were doing so well too!  Sad

New update posted about Solo:

http://slcfalcons.blogspot.com/2013/07/july3.html

Just read on Twitter that 45 minutes ago, Solo hit the Key Bank Tower and is on the way to a rehabber.  Something strange is going on with him.

That is so sad! He left the nest too early but think by now he could fly better. Guess 7 strikes your out!  Sad

MAK's phone just died, she's going to try to charge it. Beauty and DC were flying past the nest coaxing the kids to fly, (explains all the screaming)! DC gone but Beauty is one level above the nest now. Let's see how this day plays out!

Anyone know if these 2 have names? No updates since the 2nd one hatched? Did they forget about Hamilton??

Posted in BCAW:

"Our theme for bird names this year is "Heroes and Heroines of the War of 1812". Chick No. 1 (left) weighed in at 858 grams, clearly a female, and was named "Laura" for Laura Secord. Chick No. 2 (right)was named "Brock", for General Brock. Brock weighed in at 422 grams, well in the low part of the weight range for a male, but being only 19 days old there is some doubt as to gender. We will have a better idea on that in about two weeks. (No. 2 would have been named "Tecumseh" but we learned that a Peregrine chick at Windsor, Ontario was given that name a few weeks ago and we try not to have two birds with the same name.) Pictures of the banding are now available for viewing! Click here to View the 2013 Banding Gallery (opens a new window)."

Many think Brock is a female now that she's older.

Aha, thanks!!  2thumbsup

If you are in or around the vicinity of Temple Square, look around. We are trying to locate Solo. He was last spotted flying south between the Temple and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building at around 10:30 am today. If you see him, please call Bob... 801-209-5326 or Trish... 801-573-7491.

They found him!

Looks like Solo got in trouble again!  How many times is this now??

He will be released soon!!
