A crane’s chances of survival in the wild are slim without two legs so Macquisten decided to build a prosthetic limb. After a successful trial run using a wooden dowel, he set out to craft a more sturdy prosthetic using steel rods, lightweight wires and door insulation for padding— materials he found in his backyard shop.
The site which started it all, back in 1987, has had a hatch for 2013. At least three of the four eggs have hatched at this time (hatch started on Tuesday). Watch for yourself! The MPS banding team will be banding the chicks on June 20th at noon. If you are in the MN area, this event is open to the public.
