Peregrine Falcon #17-1231:

Admission Date:
May 31, 2017
Location of Rescue: Richmond, Virginia
Cause of Admission / Condition: Failure to thrive
Prognosis: Fair
Patient Status: Current Patient

On the evening of May 31, one of the Richmond Peregrine Falcon chicks -- from atop the Riverfront Plaza Building in downtown Richmond -- was admitted to the Wildlife Center. According to the Richmond Falcon Cam website, the smallest of the three chicks, which hatched on May 18, did not seem to be doing as well as the others. VDGIF biologists decided to remove the falcon chick from the nest; it made a quick stop at a local veterinary clinic before it was transported to the Wildlife Center that same day. (LOVE HOW THEY DIDN'T LET HIM DIE)

Dr. Peach, one of the Center's veterinarians, examined the chick when it arrived. Upon arrival, the chick was bright, vocalizing, and exhibiting normal nestling behavior. The chick was a little thin, but was hydrated and weighed in at 242 grams. Dr. Peach hand-fed the chick a diet of quail meat, which the young bird ate readily.

The team will continue to assess the small falcon today and will consult with VDGIF biologists to determine a long-term plan.

Wildlife Center fans will recognize that this little Peregrine Falcon is a half-sibling to the Center's education falcon, Maggie.

5.35 am and Cady is in with food.  Dad was babysitting when I tuned in and now mom is in feeding the baby.

5.47 am and the food is on top of baby - he's pinned under it while Cady tries to feed him.  I wish dad would prepare food for her so she wouldn't have to bring in these huge birds.  Good lord get that food off the baby Cady...

5.51 am and she moved the food off to the side, baby is a mess...looks like the time DC first tried to feed Orion  lol

I was watching that also!!  Shocked

Barb Baldinger confirmed today that Screech (DotCa's older sister - born 2008 to Jack & Angel) is still the resident female at the AT&T Tower in Pontiac, Michigan.  She and her mate have 3 offspring this year.  The year she was born was the first year I met and helped Frank out with his fledge watch.

Here is her photo she posted to their FB site today - can you see a family resemblance?! :

Sure do! Miss Frank.  Sad

I got to know BF on a New Years Eve, on our chat. We talked for a long time after MAK left the chat. I remember one thing he said to me and that was, "I'm not sure I should be telling you this, as I hardly know you!" What a guy! Yay for Screech!  heart
