http://outdoorchannel.com/eaglecam 1st egg. Hope all goes well with them this year. As the blustery temperatures start plummeting in Shepherdstown, WV at currently 17 degrees, our eagles are setting up house in their beautiful sycamore tree located at the National Conservation Training Center, just a hop, skip and a jump from the Potomac River, where they have nested every year since 2007. Each year, the eagles add sticks, grass, and other material to their nest, so every year, the nest gets bulkier and heavier. Our NCTC nest is approximately 7-8 feet in diameter and could weigh nearly a ton by now. Eagles add material to their nest every year to build the sides up higher in order to keep the eaglets from falling out. You might think this is not necessary, but the nest needs to be so big because, even though the chicks are small when they hatch, within a couple of months they get very large. You can imagine with, potentially, three very large chicks and two adults, each with a wing span of 7 feet, the nest can get very crowded, very quickly. Check out the photo of a man installing the eagle camera. You can see just how big the nest really is.

What's done is done and cannot be undone. Who ever called was just being a concerned citizen and was not aware of the consequences. I posted that to fb well because people need to be aware of what happens when we stray from the rules. Next time, which I hope never happens, we will know better and to let the authorities handle it.

I wonder-if they can (if it wasn't a typo), why didn't the official show their authority? Who would have harrassed the building manager so much after we were all told by June in a previous post to be patient? Why say the DEC official can go see if the bird is up there and then when the official shows up, change their mind in letting them have access to the roof? Lots of questions. Just a shame that there will never be an answer to this.
Like I said, the bird disappeared! Someone knows something! Either that or it's still up there but we'll never know. Unless someone wants to do a fly over!

It looks like there's enough room between the wall and the elevator that she could get out if she was actually inside the shaft when the elevator moved.
I'm sure when that thing fires up, it would scare the ba-hu-ha out of her!

Thanks, MAK! I'm glad to know Beauty's not trapped in the elevator shaft. I was concerned when neither you nor I saw her all morning.
Why are they moving the elevator? They plan on using it again?? Beauty won't like that!
