Hard to tell Kris but I think she's acting weird today!! Not around so much and she does seem on edge! No more problems, I hope!

Betty Ann Kelly ยท Stockton University
91/BA on railing and prior was in nest box picking at left talon. On close inspection, appears to have an injury to left talon. (I guess they don't like calling her by her given name).

I don't know if it's true or if she was picking at leftovers, I didn't see her and I haven't seen her in a bit, so I'm wondering if there is a 3rd again??? The way these 2 take off in a hurry, you just never know.

Carol, I don't think they name them at this nest, just band them. I read what I can on them and I saw nothing on names! Too bad, could be fun!!  devil I believe Kathy Clark bands them here.

I kind of thought that might be the case Donna.  I noticed that Betty Ann doesn't use Cadence's name, only her band #s when referring to her.

Too bad, it's more "FUNNER" when they have names!!!  crazy

3/1/17

Great Spirit Bluff falcons are back! We have a new HD nest box camera that has been working well. It is amazing the difference that HD technology makes. We thank A2Z Security Cameras for their help and support!

UNION COUNTY NESTBOX NEWS:
April 6
What we've witnessed over the past 48 hours has been the true, unfiltered behavior of nesting peregrine falcons and evolution at work. Natural selection is the process of evolution where only the fittest survive to produce offspring. As it turns out, 91/BA "Cadence" is more fit than the resident female. We are in communication with employees of Union County, who are watching for the possibility of finding the injured resident female. If she is found and brought to a local rehabilitator then we will hear about it.
It will be interesting to watch and see how this season unfolds. With the resident female being defeated by 91/BA, the male is still trying to ensure the survival of his (and her) offspring. However, he will need to eat, so he will need to leave the eggs to forage. If the eggs are not kept warm, then the embryos will fail to develop. We're doubtful that 91/BA would incubate another birds eggs, but nothing is certain at this point. Either way, he will need to develop his relationship with her (the new female) and the chances of these eggs hatching is slim. Only time will tell what the ultimate outcome would be.

P.S (I just caught them mating on the rail where she hangs out on the gutter cap). She was screaming, which alerted him, (mating call), he popped off the eggs and went right up to the roof and did his deed! 7:26 am today

I still don't think Falcons will be that disturbed if they went up to remove the body. Who came up with that? There have been many instances where workers went up to fix things, people have gone up, (while the falcons were on eggs), to install cameras, (just last week). Some have gone up to remove deceased eyases! The falcons always came back and it was nesting as usual! I'm not a firm believer in "Let Nature Run it's course". I hate when Nat Geo is filming, like last night, I was watching Ostrich chicks in the desert dying because dad O thought the rains would come and they didn't and the chicks were so dehydrated, they were dying! You have water, go give them some, I certainly would, no, just let them die on camera! I told Ed to turn the channel! I try to be OK with death in nature but I'm not. I'll save whatever I can whether you want me to or not! This is just me and this is the way I have always been! (I guess I get it from my dad), he saved every animal that he could!
Heck, they save eaglets!

Sorry but I think she should be removed from the nest! No, I won't watch.  K, I'm done!  Sad

I went back through Kate's archives - back to 2010 when Dori displaced Tasha after she had laid 2 eggs.  I had watched all that drama unfold at the time but couldn't remember the timing.  Dori laid her first egg 12 days after she won the site as per Kate's records.  I do remember Louie covering the eggs to keep them warm quite a bit but not as much as this little guy here...mind you it's much colder here than it was there at the time.  And if you remember both Dori and Tasha's eggs all hatched.

Yup, I said, we have seen Miracles....look at Orion, look at Ohio, the rotten egg hatched! Anything can happen!

Good grief, what a way to go! If it is Kathy Q, (which no one is 100% sure), she did what she had to do to protect what is hers!! She lived a Fab life and her legacy will go on!!  heart
