In this video I show footage from two different incidents in which a Great Gray Owl detects an "enemy"...in one case a Bald Eagle, and in the other a Common Raven. Note how the owl stretches itself vertically to become "skinny," and then backs up to be next to the trunk (presumably to blend in) and then presents its narrowest profile towards the raven or eagle.
Filmed in the Sax-Zim Bog of northern Minnesota. Ironically, the eagle incident was filmed on March 3, 2011, exactly one year before the raven footage.
Filmed with a Canon 7D and a Canon 400mm f5.6 lens.

Quest and Kendal (?) have been very active this am. Quest at nest and Kendal (?) flying around back and forth past the nest. I'm sure they had enough!  Thanks to nycbird for the heads up. Had the cam open but was away for a few!!

Just landed on the nest again! I'm sure kakking away!

11/28/2012  ::   Camera Upgrades
The cameras at the ledge will be replaced with new, state-of-the-art cameras to improve the image we provide for the 2013 nesting season. By Monday, December 3rd, the still image should be back on line.

8/8/2012  ::   Update from the Ledge
The live stream video has ended for the season. The still image capture is available year-round. The adult pair has been spending time together at the ledge and throughout the city. This is good news in that it indicates their pair bond is strong and the outlook for the next breeding season is good.

7/17/2012  ::   Update From the Ledge
Both of the adults have been at the ledge. This is a firm indication that the fledglings have dispersed from the area. The new female has been laying and rotating in the scrape. This behavior seems to be practice for the next nesting season which will get underway early in February of 2013.
