MAAAA!!!! Rhea Mae wants to eat Orville!

The only thing she didn't eat.

So you saying that she was a big eater?

No, that would be an understatement.

Go eat some poutine and stop picking on Rhea Mae.  nono

I wasn't watching back then-just have heard bits and pieces about Mariah being hurt and some eyases dying.  Maybe sometime somebody could tell the story of 2006.

Oh man, May was quite a month in 2006!  crying

Third time's a charm.

The search function can be finicky. It's best to start from the top level of the Forum.

I've merged all three topics.

  See, we need this!

WINORR- Wildlife In Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation I received a call this afternoon about this hawk with a wing injury perching on the back of a bench inside the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay. The extremely caring caller made it possible by going back and meeting me there to bring me to the location he had last seen it. After a search we were able to find her again where she had climbed up about 6 feet into a low sprawling cedar watching us the whole time . My vet is only 5 minutes away and I dropped her off for x rays and was shocked to hear it was shot and has a fractured radius and ulna of the right wing . No way, not in this place I said but most likely yes since the injury has left it unflighted unless it walked such a great distance and luckily ended up in this park. The weather was beautiful today and the place attracts a lot of photographers but only a few realized it was so seriously injured and needed assistance as soon as possible. Unless it had found roadkill it doesn't have the ability to catch any food in the condition it is presently in and is quite thin. We need to treat for infection and pain and build it back up and then possibly consider surgery to repair but it is a longshot it ever being a releasable hawk ever again.  Sad

Although in this pic, you can clearly see a falcon on the top rail next to the pole. If you look real close to the left on the top platform, you can see a small dark blip.....may be Beauty eating. Is DC back?

That dark blip does look like Beauty's head. Hmmm.

And if that was DC on the right, he would be in Beauty's face trying to snag her meal. This one is awfully white! Very confusing with these falcons!

I have trouble with them sometimes too...

Thanks Ei, sometimes the pics just spin and spin then time out!  wave

My trick is...right click on the pic & copy image location. Paste the location into address bar and delete the sizing info after the .jpg...in red below...that brings up the full size photo reasonably quickly

Well I'll be a peregrine's pellet! Thanks Ei, love little tips!  handshake

.. peregrine falcon programme

Conservationists from around the world have been hearing about Aylesbury’s peregrine falcon project.

Two council officials were invited to speak in Slovakia at the first international conference on the protection of birds and bats in buildings.

Aylesbury Vale District Council biodiversity team’s Matt Dodds and Bucks County Council ecologist Mai Nielsen presented a talk on the project, focusing on how a peregrine falcon nesting platform was built at County Hall.

Ms Nielsen said of the EU funded Zvolen trip: “It was very exciting to get the opportunity to present the results of a great partnership project to conservationists from around Europe. The presentation and project was very well received and we are hoping that we have inspired others to create similar projects and thereby help save threatened species in towns and cities.â€

The district council’s biodiversity team project lead, Paul Holton, described the project as ‘a wonderful example of what conservation gains can be achieved through imagination, dedication and teamwork’.

He said: “Thousands of people from around the world logged into the AVDC website to watch the day-to-day struggles of our peregrines. Next year we hope to make further improvements to the cameras, platform and project to enable the public to gain even greater enjoyment and involvement from ‘our’ birds.â€
