A 200-year-old tradition of swans ringing bells for food at an historic palace is in jeopardy - after the male bird dumped his partner.  Shocked  The nerve!

LOL, you always find the cool stuff before I do.

No peregrines out here this trip, but I did have a roadrunner closely following me yesterday as I walked near the swimming pool, perhaps hoping I had a snake or lizard in my pocket and wanted to share.

Paul

Sorry Paul! Roadrunner? Wow!!

As many of you know, my family usually spends Columbus Day Weekend (and many other weekends) on Ocracoke Island, a beautiful, remote, barier island off the coast of North Carolina.  Alas, not this year -- the Air Force Research Laboratory liked our work, so I am off in the desert writing a proposal.  My heart, however, is on Ocracoke, so I was delighted to  find this

Donna, the sound barrier was broken 20 years earlier than your uncle's flight.  I suspect he broke the barrier shortly after he hit the after burners on take-off.  Your uncle looks to be well protected for high flying in that suit he is wearing.

Well, he was doing something with the speed of sound! I was just a little kid!  devil

My uncle John Carnochan. Sadly, he and his wife were horrifically murdered last month by his wifes grandson, (his 2nd marriage). From the stories of family members, they were trying to break the sound barrier, if that's what you call it on that flight.

These are not whoopers.  They are whooping cranes.  Whoopers are swans.

Thanks for the clarification.   There is a big difference between a Crane and a Swan!!

I think they use it as a short cut!  Me too!  wave

I believe with all my heart that they did the best for S2. Some places would just put her down. I respect all who were involved with this decision to give her a second chance at life. They all did an awesome job. Thank you Alison for your great translations. I wish them the best with S2 and to S2 herself. It's been one heck of a year and the puzzle is almost finished. Thank you all!
