And they want to satellite tag the chicks this year!! Maybe another 'Quest' type saga to watch unfold. Q: Are there any plans to tag/ ring the chicks this year? A: Yes, we would like to put satellite tags on the chick or chicks (the funds for this research project were raised by volunteers and members a couple of years ago and we’ve been holding them until we get chicks). If possible, this would happen at around 6 weeks of age- we will be explaining a lot more about this closer to the time, but meanwhile, why not read up on ringing and satellite tracking under our FAQ’s ( see the tab at the top of this page) . SCH-WEET!!

I'm so glad they've been rescued and are in good hands. What happened to the parents?
The first 2 are in good shape and the parents were nearby and will still provide food when they are returned as soon as possible. The nest is on the 17th floor and DEC personal will make the call as to where they are returned . Either back to the nest or on the roof but they will be back as soon as possible. The 3rd will need a little tlc before hopefully going back as well .The next few days there will be many more raptors leaving the nest for the first time and many will unfortuantely get into trouble .

WINORR- Wildlife In Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation Cathy picked up these 3 surviving peregrine fledglings from a courtyard at the Nassau County Medical Center in East Meadow today where there is a nest on the 17th floor. There was a 4th that was doa for unknown reasons at this time. We will send it for a necropsy . This nest traditionally has its share of problems with frounce and the congested area causing problems for the young birds learning to survive on their own . 2 of them are in good shape and should be able to returned by DEC personal to a safer spot but the 3rd , the smallest, has a possible fractured jaw, a split upper palate from the fall, and a deformed lower mandible which might be causing a problem feeding since it was the only one on the thin side. Feel bad for him but the longer they keep mom, will give Sante time to bond with new female. Hard decisions. but he is not bonding with her. He is doing a DC on her. If the resident female could be released soon all might be well. I find it odd they took out of the area when there are rehabbers near her home. Strange and suspicious If they keep her longer, he will pull a DC and bond after the swoop! That's what I mean. If moms not badly injured, don't hold her too much longer.
