Orion certainly is developing just fine when it comes to lung capacity. I can't help wondering when Beauty is going to give him a little dope slap and tell him to tone it down!!!! Wink

Thanks. I was beginning to worry. I'll sleep better tonight.
18  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Where Is Beauty? on: 15-Jul-12, 08:46:09 PM
I've been watching off and on and haven't seen Beauty for hours. What's going on?
19  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcons News / Re: We Are Happy to Announce that Beauty Has Laid An Egg! - 5/16/12 on: 20-Jun-12, 08:10:30 AM
What is that little ball of fluff I see this morning? Looks as if there are pieces of shell there also. Did the first egg hatch?

I'm very confused. What's that other thing that's been in the box for weeks that looks to me just like an egg?
21  Rochester Falcons / Rfalconcam Website News / Re: New Features for 2011 on: 13-Apr-11, 09:48:02 AM
Maybe it's me but it seems that the quality of the image in the streaming video is not nearly as good as last year. Even the small view seems as if it is being recorded with a very cloudy lens. The still photos on the "Latest Pictures" page are excellent. I've got a newer, better computer this year so I'm at a loss to understand why I'm getting such a poor images on the streaming video.
22  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Black Beaks/Yellow Beaks on: 28-Jun-10, 03:29:05 PM
What is the difference between "baby" feathers and "adult" feathers? At this point the "kids" seem to me to be almost as big as the parents (it's  hard to figure out who's without close-ups) and their feathers look the same.

Cali & Jemi's beaks are all black. Will they eventually turn yellow like their parents? If so, about when? If not, why not?
24  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Sibling Rivalry? on: 13-Jun-10, 05:01:47 PM
It looked to me like she was pecking at her sister. I never thought it could be preening but that certainly seems likely. Thanks for explaining that.
25  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Sibling Rivalry? on: 13-Jun-10, 01:12:31 PM
Watching the Ustream live video it seems at times that Callidora is attacking Jemison. Is this what is happening? If so, could Callidora do any serious harm to Jemison?
26  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Speaking of Noise . . . on: 11-Jun-10, 02:11:59 PM
The young ones have certainly developed strong lungs -- they can make quite a racket all by themselves!
27  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Noise Pollution on: 10-Jun-10, 07:26:39 PM
The noise downtown is, frankly, frightful and I'm just hearing it via the internet. This evening, in addition to the usual cacophony I can hear music, sometimes rather loud given that the nest is well-above the street. I'm wondering if/how all this affects the poor birds. It certainly is enough to drive me nuts. Does it bother them? Does it disrupt their natural behaviors in any way?
28  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Re: Have They Been Named? on: 28-May-10, 02:55:54 PM
That's a good question. I'd suggest you post it as its own topic as people might not find it here given the topic title and there are probably others who would be interested.
29  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Have They Been Named? on: 28-May-10, 12:43:02 PM
Have he eyas been named yet? If so, what are their names? If not, when will they be named, who picks the names, and is there a system or tradition or such for selecting names?
30  Rochester Falcons / Rochester Falcon Discussion / Two Questions on: 27-May-10, 01:14:49 PM
1) Someone wrote on the 'blog' that appears with the Ustream video that it's more difficult for Beauty and Archer to hunt when it is hot b/c it is more exhausting and because their prey tend to seek cover from the heat making them harder to find. If we continue to have this hot weather are the babies at risk?

2) At what point will Beauty and Archer be able to stop direct feeding of the eyas, i.e. when can they drop the food on the nest and the little ones will be able to peck and tear and feed off them by themselves?
