Do you know if there have been any sightings of E8 since his release?

Unfortunately, no sightings of E8 since his release..hoping he's doing well, wherever he is.

Sad news from RRP about the loss of one of their 2016 Eagles they've been tracking. 

We are sorry to let everyone know that Brett and his assistants found D25 dead alongside a road between Maynard and Westgate, IA. He was likely scavenging a raccoon carcass when he was struck and killed by a vehicle. His body will be sent to the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, WI for a necropsy. All of us find it heartbreaking to lose another eagle. It is one thing to know that first-year bald eagles have high mortality rates and another to see it reflected in the lives of eagles we have come to know and love.

The cam is up and running for the new season!  Harriet and M15 have been busy rebuilding their nest, after the old one from last season fell down a few months ago!

Thanks, Kris.  Great videos!  Sorry I missed you and Bill again.  I was out watching for a good portion of the morning and afternoon, but I was not home in the evening.  For those viewing the video who are not familiar with the area, I live in Summerville in the tan colored complex right behind the red-roofed Coast Guard Station. 

We got a good view of him, by the river, next to the restaurant's outdoor eating area so we set up our chairs there.  We had a lady come up to us, asking if that was a Falcon up there. I said it was and she said she has seen him in a tree across the river and people were taking pictures of him. It must have been our watchers and they told her what he was. What a beautiful area you live in, Pat! 

As of September 8, Lady has been incubating three eggs.

A few hours ago:

I think we may have our first chick. Pappa has been on the rooftop hooting loudly for ages. I can't see into the pot with Lady there but she seems more alert. If there's a gap when / if she gets off the nest, I'll confirm if we have a new arrival.

I am happy for Pappa and Lady. It is good that he was able to convince her to accept the planter as her nest. She is a beautiful owl.



I cannot watch this site without thinking of the senseless loss of PPO.

Me either, Alison.  Hopefully, the neighbors have been educated about secondary rodenticide poisoning and are aware of rodent control using alternate methods other than rat poison.

Bill and I decided to go see if we could see Genesee tonight and he didn't disappoint.  He wasn't there when we arrived around 6PM but shortly after, he showed up on the CGT.  I sent a text out to Joyce that he was there and I saw that she sent out a tweet. Genesee had food in his crop so spent the evening preening, resting and looking around his territory. We started our watch on the CGT side and seeing as there weren't any other watchers there tonight, we headed over to the Charlotte side.  Around 7:15, Genesee took off, flying south over the river and out of sight.  Here's a couple videos I took-

Found a photo by MAK that shows Genesee with non-yellow feet, at least in that particular light. I knew I had one somewhere.  This was taken on the day he fledged.  As I recall, they weren't as blue as some of the others.  More of a greenish-blue.

That was the first thing I noticed, after seeing pics of him this year..he has BYF now!
