I agree Donna-the left foot on that hawk had no talons. WINORR's response on FB to person's question are the talons missing- WINORR- Wildlife In Need of Rescue and Rehabilitation Yes all the talons are there on both feet. Maybe it appears they arent but it is knuckling on the bad foot until it improves.

They've sure had quite a time at that nest
Dad relocated the nest last year to a private property, adjacent to the Garden. It was a great place for them, no hassles from the government.. unfortunately, there's hazards. People there have seen Dad a couple times at the nest, since HE got killed, and he'll probably attract a new mate..after Mom, he had 4 females going after him! The unfortunate thing is that Dad and HE were about a week from having their first egg, according to sources there. Very sad....

Follow-up post from FB:
The Garden of Eagles: "With a heavy heart it has been reported that banded 2009 Norfolk Botanical Garden (NBG) Eagle HE died January 6, 2016. She was one of three eaglets that were raised in 2009 by the NBG eagle pair, Mom and Dad Norfolk (HK and HH-"Azalea" were her siblings). Last season HE and 'Dad Norfolk' became a bonded pair and raised one eaglet. The three are featured in the month of January in the 2016 'Garden of Eagles' calendar (see pinned post). HE and her siblings were featured in the first 'Garden of Eagles' calendar (for the year 2010). May she fly free forever.
Source Reese F. Lukei, Jr: "Adult Female Bald Eagle "HE" banded April 22, 2009 at Norfolk Botanical Garden was found dead at the US Navy Little Creek Expeditionary Base on January 6, 2016. Only injury was to her head from some type of collision, likely a motor vehicle. Other details may be available later. HE bred last year at a nest in Norfolk VA with her father from Norfolk Botanical Garden and successfully raised one chick."

Thank you for the photos of Ivy, she's beautiful! As for giving up on King, don't count her out yet - it's not yet nesting season so she has no reason to risk her life fighting just now. I expect she's probably scoping out a few potential sites before Spring comes and she decides to make a move.
It'll be an interesting time, come spring!

Hi everyone, Just wanted to give you a quick update that Ivy 79AN has been spotted at one of our local parks here in Toronto called Downsview Park. I frequent this park often and on Sunday January 3, 2016 I spotted her for the first time at approximately 11am. I took some pics of her...she was remarkably approachable...it's as close as I've ever been to a Peregrine Falcon. But at 20 metres I stopped and used my 83x zoom camera to snap the close-ups below. The first one has her leg-band with ID number 79AN Awesome! I followed that whole story about Ivy and her foster parents, Athena and Six that year! So glad to hear she's doing well! Is that park near the King St nest site, where she was spotted a while ago?

Dead falcon is Maverick Maverick on Right By Ed Balint Posted Jan. 5, 2012 at 12:01 AM Updated Jan 5, 2012 at 5:21 AM CANTON A state wildlife official has confirmed that Maverick is the dead peregrine falcon that was found in downtown Canton. Maverick, who has fathered falcon chicks since 2003 on a ledge at Chase Tower in downtown Canton, was discovered earlier this week along the side of the road. After The Repository notified the Ohio Department of Natural Resources about the dead bird on Wednesday, Damon Greer, assistant wildlife management supervisor with the Ohio Division of Wildlife, said the falcon appeared to be Maverick. Greer said later that the information on the two aluminum bands attached to the falcon matched with Maverick. “It looks like he’s got some head trauma from probably running into a building,” he said. “And he’s also been run over.” “... From my estimation, what I would guess probably happened is he probably got in a fight with another bird ... and then he probably hit a building.” Peregrine falcons were removed from the federal endangered species list in 1999 and were downgraded to threatened on the Ohio endangered species list in 2008. The ODNR tracks about 18 peregrine falcon nests in the state. So sad, poor guy!! Maverick passed away 4 years ago, in 2012. Mystic and Maurice (Mo) were the resident Falcons last year.
