2014 Eagle Egg Likely Infertile
Thanks to all of our Eagle Watchers this season for your rapt attention to this page and the EagleCam. Today, in lieu of Ask the Eagle Expert, we are letting you know that it is unlikely that the eagle egg will hatch this year. Although we have not removed the egg as to not stress the birds, it appears that the egg was not fertile in the first place. This could have happened for many different reasons, but most likely the disruption from the aviary construction early in the season was a contributing factor. We hope that you will continue to watch Savannah and Derek throughout the year and that we will have eggs again next season. Please post any questions here for further information.   Sad

Feel bad for them again this year.  Sad

Sorry, I totally didn't see this copy! Weird how I miss some stuff and I read all! Sometimes MAK's reports don't show up for hours after she posted them. I refresh and nothing but when I go to the home page, I see things highlighted that I missed. Sorry Kris!  Embarrassed

No problem!   handshake

You know who I miss though is the little chatty one that Beauty liked, did we call him UT?  He was a little sweetheart.

This pic was of UT from last winter-the one she was really bonding with just before DC came back.  I really liked him...so cute!

Stay safe little ones!  humming bird

They were released into the same yard that they were hatched from. There's a new Phoebe who's been looking over the nesting situation and a male has been seen too...looks like he didn't like the babies in their territory. Hope they'll be OK.

A Couple Announcements:
The chicks will be released in the yard tomorrow, 2-March. They should be here around noon, then stay in their cage for an hour or 2 to acclimate. They will be released at around 1:30pm or so PST. I will be streaming the whole time at http://phoebeallens.com/.

Also, a new female has moved into the yard. Her name is Phoebe Renata Allens. [Must be related and her middle name just happens to mean reborn]
She has been exploring nest locations in the rosebush and will hopefully get building soon. She seems very interested in an old nest I mounted in the bush, but is also looking at the previous site among other locations.

We think so.  Dana spotted her not too long ago by the O'Rorke Bridge in Charlotte, and Carol spotted a falcon flying over the river in Charlotte about a week ago.  Also, a woman who posted on the rfalconcam Facebook page says she has had a banded juvie visit the top of her air conditioner periodically recently, and that sounds like Billy.

That's good to hear!  Maybe she'll hook up with KPF!
