 Day 43
Why assisted hatching is required for Goofy
 She is at high risk.

I contacted experts regarding the odd shape of Goofy's egg and her lack of progress compared to Miss Perfect, who both pipped at the same time

The problem is that Goofy's egg is not round, it is flattened, and thus she cannot rotate inside like a normal chick in the egg, so her beak cannot go to new places in the shell. I do not see how she could rotate in the egg. And for the past 20 hours she has pecked at the same spot. I believe she is stuck.

In the commercial ranching world, they would not have even attempted to hatch a malformed egg.The rancher I got her from did not realize her odd shape when he gave her to me.

The largest egg, "Goofy" is flat. 1430 grams 8-31-2013. Measurements are 4 7/8 wide and 4" the other way wide, and 6" tall.. This makes her narrower than the smallest egg I got.

(The smallest egg was 4.25" wide, but even. 1190 grams 8-31-2013 - Miss Perfect)

Anyway I am going ahead with this since this is a high risk hatch for Goofy.

Shaky posted this story on here in 2011 under Iroquois NWR Eagles 2011.  Great story and good to read again. I wonder if they're still alive and together.

Satellite Tracking Udpate: Still Going Strong
Posted on October 11, 2013 by rangeremma

Blue YZ is still going strong on her perilous migration. As of yesterday she was in northern Mali, and was finally starting to make a turn south west towards the coast.

As promised, updates on news of our young satellite tracked osprey as soon as we have them. We too are on the edges of our seats waiting for each new set of data to see how our youngster is fairing.

As of 9pm last night ( Friday) she was in central Mauritania,  still following her SW or SSW trajectory. She is still flying well, at a fairly normal speed, and making good long flights.

Going by this area many, many times over the years for various Dr. visits, I was always intrigued by what the buildings were at one time.  Even though the years brought much disrepair to them with broken windows, crumbling bricks, broken facades, foliage growing on the exteriors, they still looked like they were beautiful at one time and the setting was park-like. Personally, I think making this beautiful area into a vast parking lot anchored by a Costco kind of sad.
