Tuesday, July 16 The panda team is tired and a little stressed, but happy! So far, both cubs are doing well. We are fortunate that both were born a healthy weight and strong. Sometimes one twin is very small. As you all know, Lun Lun is a fantastic mom, and she's even more impressive this time. The cubs are being alternated with her, which is a technique first developed by our colleagues in Chengdu and used successfully for many cubs. Lun Lun is such a good mom, though, that she is reluctant to give up whichever cub she has. So, we have not been able to swap the cubs as frequently as we would like. Because of that, both have been supplemented with some formula. Both are doing well with this. Their condition and Lun Lun's behavior will continue to guide our actions. The next few days are especially critical. So, please continue to keep us in your thoughts. We can use the good vibes! Rebecca Snyder, PhD, Curator of Mammals

Update:
BROCK IS BACK AND SHE IS A SHE!!!
Tuesday, July 16, 2013 - Falconwatch Coordinator Rachael Belford reports: After getting a clean bill of health Brock was brought back to Hamilton and released on the Sheraton roof, not far from the nest ledge, at 11:37 today. Equally good news is that Brock weighed in at 744 grams, clearly a female weight, so we can use 'her' and 'she' from now on! Based on past rescues and releases, Brock will explore the Sheraton roof a bit, find her way over to the TV camera area and likely, but not absolutely, hop or fly back to the nest ledge. Stay tuned!!

From Hamilton FB page:
Charles Gregory Official Falconwatch Report for Monday, July 15, 2013 - Falconwatch Coordinator Cheryl Dobell reports: A few seconds after 12:08:33 (photo uploaded on previous post) Brock starting running at the west end of the nest ledge and never stopped!!!! Brock first flew to the upper roof of the Thomson building, then dropped down to the next lower roof and next flew to the sixth floor level of the Stelco building where he landed on the window ledge. An hour or so later, possibly startled by someone inside Stelco, Brock slid down the side of the building to the second floor window ledge. Another hour later Brock tried to fly to the Thomson building but wound up on the lowest Thomson roof. Just before 21:00 Brock flew across King Street and landed on a stairway behind Hamilton Place and was taken in hand by our Rescue team. Brock is OK, but after yesterday's adventures has been taken to a medical facility for routine precautionary observation. We will post updates via the website and here on Facebook as soon as we have further information.
Laura had an amazing day in her own right. She made several flights to her favourite places and was out of sight at different times. Around 17:00 she joined one of the adults on a spiralling flight up above the Sheraton. The two of them eventually went out of sight. An hour later Laura successfully took food in mid-air from Madame X and landed on Standard Life to enjoy it. Laura is doing VERY well.

Kittenface just posted this sad news over at BCAW: FACEBOOK UPDATE SALT LAKE CITY
We have some bad news to report. :' (On July 13, 2013, Solo, the only young-of-the-year peregrine falcon to hatch at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (JSMB) this year, died from injuries sustained on July 3. The injuries were a result of a high-speed impact into the north face of the Zion’s Bank Tower located due south of the JSMB. Following his injury and rescue, Solo was transported to a Salt Lake City rehabilitation facility where supportive therapies were started under the care of Jo Stoddard. X-rays were taken on July 5. While no fractures were evidenced, Solo suffered soft tissue, nerve and spinal cord injuries. These injuries resulted in flaccid paralysis of both legs, incontinence and head trauma. While some slight improvement in the paralysis was detected over the 10-day holding period, other systems began to shut down. He was found dead midday on Saturday. This is heartbreaking news. He tried so hard but it seemed like he was rescued just too many times. Fly free, young Solo.

It was a great day-good to see everybody again and to meet new people! Even though we left early because of the heat, we got to see some great flying by our Falcon family and I'm thrilled the "kids" are doing so well. Thanks to all who posted pics and, Donna, Bill says thanks for posting 3 butt shots of him!
