I swear he waits for her to feed, then gets going himself! Who cares, it works!!

 clap

I don't recall ever seeing this much tandem feeding!  Are they in competition?   Are they over feeding the babies?    What are they bringing up to the nest box?  Ducks?

Before the banding today, Tracy and I caught Jack sneaking into the ledge with food shortly after O'Connor had fed them!  So I guess that's where he gets it from!  And speaking of ducks...they found one up on the rooftop  lol  One day when Frank and I were up on the condo tower a few years ago, we also saw a duck in the cache!

Chip off the old block!

Congratulations to Jack and O'Connor!  Love the names and a great tribute to BF naming an eyas after him!

Beauty leaving after feeding!

Plenty of good meat left on this one...

Tiny didn't get too much of this feed, did it?

I looked at the Earthcam archive - little one was barely alive around midday Monday.  It was no longer breathing around 5:00 pm.  And yes, the archive from this morning shows the adult (might have been Mintaka) using the dead one as food for the other 4.  Quite disturbing, to say the least.  After thinking all day about it, Peregrines do feed on birds, so maybe it makes sense in the bird world.  I sure hope there's no danger to the others from this one - maybe it was just too weak to survive.  I assume they'll check the 4 closely at banding.
Very sad to read that this happened. It is very rare; parents will normally carry a lost chick gently out of the nest. I have seen this kind of behavior only once before, back in 2004, at another nest. I wish it had been possible to find out what caused the loss of this little chick.

Could you please tell me where would I find the archive you mentioned?

I was also wondering if a link to the archive could be posted.

The only hatch!  Sad

Despite 4 eggs, peregrine falcons may have only one offspring.

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/56371523-78/eggs-peregrine-falcons-egg.html.csp 1 is a record low for this site.

One of the eggs collapsed the other day-inside was yellow liquid that got onto the lone chick. People that saw what happened thought the mother had consumed the contents of the egg after it collapsed so it was hard to tell what was in it.

I have been checking the cam each day, and have seen only one of the adults on the railing once or twice.

But today, some good news posted on the site 25 minutes ago: "One of the young just spotted flying outside MLA offices!"

I hope the other one is safe too.

I've been checking to see if there was any news so that's good to hear! Thanks, Alison!

Dinner is served while Dot stands watch

Did they all get a good feeding? I missed it.

It appears that one of the five has not survived.  It is lying in the nestbox and not breathing or moving.  Cry

I was just watching that site. Very sad. There's been quite a few chick deaths at nest sites this year.  SLC had an egg collapse just the other day.  Fly free, little one.  sorrow

Calgary, Alberta

Like Beauty and DC, Callie and Gary have two brand new chicks. Usually, Rochester chicks would hatch earlier than Calgary, but not this year
