I just got a report from Jacquie which is exciting! And hatches are expected this week! I went to Central Terminal at 10:30 and didn't see anything until 11:10 when the male flew in and perched on the southeast corner of the tower, preening. He is clearly banded, Black/Green. I couldn't read it but I am betting this is still Diamante. There were a couple of guys doing some work on the flat roof below the nest and the bird was completely unconcerned. He took off after about 20 minutes and flew to the south, circling high. Another PEFA flew into view and they were foraging in the same area for 1-2 minutes, but there was no interaction and the eventually went their separate ways. I lost sight of both of them. A few minutes later I heard alarm calls coming from the nest box, and when I looked back to the south there were a couple of turkey vultures drifting a little too close to the tower for the female's liking. They also drifted away and out of sight. I never did see the female; she was tight in the box the whole time. I left at noon and the male had not returned yet. If this is Diamanté, it would be wonderful news! It was so disappointing to think he wasn't still at CT with Gleig.

C&C's Ohio Peregrine Page Caught a banded male peregrine eating on the Coastguard tower in Lorain last night (and have seen one here near dark earlier last week as well). He whittled down the prey and then took off with it, over the bascule bridge and toward the 21st Street Bridge (where a pair has nested before), but then flew out of view from our angle. It’s likely there’s a nest either at the 21st Street Bridge again or south of there at the Steel Mill (where pairs have also attempted nesting in the past). Tough to zero in, though—hate to say it, but it’s not very safe underneath the 21st Street Bridge in Lorain to check there and there are sections of the Steel Mill that are shut down. So, we might have to just make the assumption that they are nesting “somewhere” in Lorain. Hopefully, we can see this guy in better lighting at some point. Always wonder if it could be Cheyenne, and it certainly could be Zeus, who disappeared from his hunting grounds in Elyria with Evelyn just as nesting time was kicking in. from fb Cheyenne from when he was in rehab in 2010 I've always wondered what happened to him after his release, then I think of our Seneca and whatever happened to her?

That's so sad to watch, poor baby. Hope she gets the hang of it soon!
The latest video posted by sgb shows Durand feeding the baby and it looks like she's starting to get the hang of it. Congrats to both Durand and Spark-hope the others hatch! I had faith she'd get it. Remember Dot covering poor Orion in pigeon last year? That was quite memorable!

The little jumper from Saturday night!! When we brought the baby down from the nest box at 9 pm, we did not have time to put pine needles in the nest box in this cage. We just opened the door and put the baby in, in the dark..This is the baby owl we got from the Princeton area and tried to put back in the nest box, that did not work, so it ended up with Baum until it is flighted. Baum is feeding and protecting it from me for now. Baum and her new adoptee! This is what happens when anyone walks past this cage now with the baby in it. Baum is a very protective bird when it comes to "her" baby. You have to be very careful when going past her home. She lost her right eye in the car injury, but that does stop her from being one mean owl. Baum was a car hit and was picked up by Don over 10 years ago. We needed some owl feathers to imp another owl that was ready for release. This bird was thought to be dead and was in the cap of Dons truck, when she started to come to and her talons were working. I got a call and Don said "come and get this dead owl" She now lives in a 12 x 16 cage and gets fresh food every night. What a great foster mom! Great story!

Um, WOW, has it been fed at all? Thought it was instinct to feed!! That was interesting for sure!
Not that anyone has seen but it's good for 24 hrs after hatching. Both are first-time parents and will hopefully get the hang of it.
